The fastest production Clio of all time is very close

The current Renault Clio RS arrived on the market shortly after the launch of the fourth generation of the well-known French model, in 2013. For the first time, it came as a 5-door body, since this generation does not offer the Clio as a 5-door.

Also for the first time, the Clio RS left aside naturally aspirated 2-litre engines and embraced downsizing by incorporating a turbocharged 1.6 engine to reach 200 horsepower. Strange as it may seem, this sporty variant is only available with a six-speed EDC automatic gearbox.

Later, a version with an extra kick arrived, the Clio RS Trophy. On this occasion it featured an even sportier look and superior dynamics, increasing the output of the 1,600 turbo engine to 220 horsepower.

Now, although it is not official, it seems that Renault is preparing a restyling of its segment B model, which could leave room for a high-performance version above the current ones; so we could be on the verge of the fastest Clio of all time.

According to the TheAutomobilist Facebook page, the brand could unveil, as a concept during the upcoming Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, the new sporty version we mentioned earlier. According to the French outlet, it would reach the market after the restyling with a no less than 250 horsepower 250 horsepower in a production Clio!

There are several important doubts about this 250-horsepower Clio. We don’t know whether this variant of the Renault Clio RS will join the 200 and 220-horsepower versions, whether the brand will replace the current RS Trophy with it, or, on the contrary, whether it will be a special edition with a limited number of units.

In any case, we will be watching the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix to see whether the French brand with the diamond logo really delights us with the supposed concept, which should be almost ready for production.
