The IONIQ 5 eN1 Cup will get underway around mid-2024
Hyundai is developing an even more radical version of the IONIQ 5 N, with which it intends to create a new circuit racing series, the IONIQ 5 eN1 Cup, which will get underway before next summer
During the N Festival held this past weekend in South Korea, Hyundai looked back on the achievements the company made in motorsport during 2023, which is now drawing to a close. The South Korean manufacturer did not stop there, however, and also previewed some of its future plans. To the surprise of attendees at the event, Hyundai unveiled images of a new racing prototype based on the IONIQ 5 N, which it has named the IONIQ 5 eN1.
Hyundai says the IONIQ 5 eN1 is currently in development, but is confident the production-ready model will be ready by next February 2024. With an even more aggressive look than the IONIQ 5 N, this prototype features much larger air intakes, a huge diffuser and, of course, a rear spoiler of generous proportions.

The IONIQ 5 eN1 also rides on 18-inch wheels with 280/680 R18 tyres, a slightly firmer suspension that gives it even less ground clearance, an upgraded braking system with six-piston calipers at the front and four-piston calipers at the rear, as well as a roll cage for the driver and extra protection for the battery pack.
It may seem impossible, but the IONIQ 5 N’s track performance could be improved
Beyond all this, Hyundai’s engineers have also pulled out all the stops to achieve a drastic reduction in the vehicle’s weight, which is estimated could come in at around 250 kilograms. Hyundai has not officially disclosed the weight of the IONIQ 5 N, but it is estimated to be around 2,100 kilograms, so the IONIQ 5 eN1 would come in clearly below two tonnes.
When the IONIQ 5 eN1 finally becomes a reality, the South Korean manufacturer even wants to create a competition around it, under the name IONIQ 5 eN1 Cup. Some details are still being finalised, but the South Korean manufacturer intends for the first race to take place around next May 2024.

As for the rules of this competition, for now it is known that all participating teams will use an IONIQ 5 eN1 with the same technical specifications. Each one will be distinguishable from the others, however, by having a different simulated engine sound. The drivers of each of these vehicles will also be able to simulate the use of an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, despite it being a fully electric model.
