The Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro now has a price

The Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro is the closest thing to a racing GT R but street-legal and better on track

The world needs cherries on top, and the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro could be the one that crowns the highest rung of this sports car, which was unveiled more than four years ago as the Mercedes-AMG GT.

The Los Angeles Motor Show is becoming a venue for farewells and unveilings, unveilings and farewells, because cars such as the new Porsche 911 have been officially shown to the world while we bid farewell to the generation known as the 991 with brutal proposals such as the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport.

For its part, Mercedes-Benz was not going to be overshadowed by its compatriots and has shown what may also be the final brushstroke on the Mercedes-AMG GT as we know it. Not only could the four-door version, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4, have been the last product derived from this car, but two new variants of the coupé version are coming to make a real impact.

A racing Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro for the road

The experience accumulated in endurance championships around the world has allowed the AMG department to apply it to the road-homologated model. As a result, the combination is perfect: a racing Mercedes-AMG GT that can legally be driven on the road.

Thanks to the official programme and to customers, the Mercedes-AMG GT models take from their GT3 and GT4 race versions the elements that can be homologated for road use.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro thus features a suspension that is almost, if not entirely, racing-spec, and suitable for circuit use. With an adjustable set-up, the work has also focused on the aerodynamics, adopting solutions taken directly from wind tunnels and, more realistically, from the on-track and race behaviour of its competition siblings.

The aerodynamic kit of the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro seeks to increase aerodynamic downforce at high speeds and, to better optimise the performance of the engine, which is carried over as standard (4 litres, twin-turbo, producing 585 CV and delivering 700 Nm of torque), the car has undergone a weight-loss programme.

Although it retains safety elements such as a roll “cage” and occupant protection for its two occupants along with a fire-extinguishing system, by replacing the body metal on the doors, bonnet, roof… with carbon fibre and the wheels with lighter ones, the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro has managed to reduce its weight on the scales.

With all this, the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro falls short of the record lap time at the Nürburgring for a road-homologated car set by the Porsche from Manthey Racing, but a lap time of 7:04.632 around the Green Hell is still a great time.

And, as with all exclusivity, it comes at a price. The price of the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro is therefore 220,350 euros for the British market, an amount set according to the taxes and duties applicable in Great Britain.
