Range Rover Velar Electric Cars Crossovers
The new generation of the Range Rover Velar that is coming will be electric
With the new Velar, the British manufacturer is going to take a completely different approach to this model, and many things are going to change.
The next generation of the Range Rover Velar will be very different from the current one, and we will know the final result very soon, in principle before summer. The new Velar will leave combustion engines behind and become an exclusively electric vehicle, but that will not be the only important change. Its design will also be much more elegant, becoming a crossover coupé with a roofline that slopes down towards the rear.
According to some recent reports, with the new Velar Range Rover will return to the philosophy of the cancelled Road Rover. A project with which the British manufacturer placed the emphasis on a vehicle more oriented towards asphalt than the rest of the models in its catalogue. Therefore, some reports claiming that the new Velar will be the model with the lowest ground clearance in the brand’s history should not surprise us.

This design change that Range Rover has chosen for the new Velar is coming at a time when there is a lot of competition in this segment. This new model will therefore have to face rivals such as the new electric Porsche Macan or the Zeekr 7X, among others, which will not make it easy for it.
What else do we know about the new Range Rover Velar?
As regards its technical specifications, for the moment what we know is that it will be based on the EVA platform with 800V architecture of the Jaguar-Land Rover group, which will allow it to charge at an ultra-rapid DC charging point at a maximum power of 350 kW. This same architecture will also be used by the next-generation Evoque and the Defender Sport, a model that will replace the Discovery Sport.
Although the official presentation of the new Velar should take place very soon, as we have already said, it will not, however, be the first pure electric model from Range Rover. That honour will go to the electric version of the fifth-generation L460, which will debut this same year. Jaguar, for its part, plans to present an electric four-door super GT.

It remains to be seen whether Range Rover finally hits the mark with this new Velar and manages to attract a considerable number of customers. The current Velar with a combustion engine is, without a doubt, a vehicle with a spectacular design. That has not been enough, however, to achieve considerable sales volume, since these have been quite modest. It is precisely for this reason that we cannot rule out that the new Velar will not actually end up being called Velar, and Range Rover may opt for a different name.

Finally, it should be noted that although many details about its technical specifications are not yet known, it seems quite likely that it will have a battery pack of around 100 kWh capacity, which would allow it to cover about 600 km on a single charge under the WLTP homologation cycle. As for its price, it will probably exceed 70,000 euros in its most affordable version, although this is no more than speculation for the moment.
