The new Mercedes-Benz EQV announces its price and market launch in Spain

Mercedes begins sales of the EQV in Spain, the new 100% electric MPV based on the V-Class and which will be manufactured at the Vitoria plant

Mercedes continues advancing on the path of electrifying its large models and, if you recall, at the beginning of this month of May, sales began of the new eSprinter, which reached the market after sales of another 100% electric model, the eVito, had also begun. Now it is the turn of one of the most representative models of the large MPVs, I am referring to the V-Class.

The Mercedes-Benz V-Class will have its fully electric variant and, as we have already mentioned, it is renamed Mercedes-Benz EQV, but it will share many similarities with its combustion sibling. In fact, the new EQV will also be manufactured at the German brand’s plant in Vitoria, where the V-Class, the Vito and the eVito are also built, which will allow the brand to easily adjust production according to market demand.

As we have already mentioned, the new Mercedes-Benz EQV will share most of the elements of the V-Class and will not differ much aesthetically, as the major changes focus on the front grille, the 18-inch alloy wheels and the inclusion of the charging port below the left front headlight. But what is more important, and where this type of MPV excels, the EQV will have the same modularity found in the V-Class, making it very easy to convert into a six-, seven- or eight-seater vehicle thanks to its individual seats or bench seats.

But the big novelty is naturally under its bonnet, where we will find a compact unit consisting of the electric motor, the eATS transmission with a fixed gear ratio, the cooling system and the electronic management components. With this motor, the new Mercedes-Benz EQV will deliver a power of 204 CV, allowing it to reach a limited top speed of 140 km/h, which can optionally be increased to 160 km/h, with a combined consumption of 28 kWh/100 km according to the WLTP test cycle.

In addition, the system is complemented by a 100 kWh battery, although only 90 kWh are actually usable, housed beneath the floor to offer the same capacity and interior space as the V-Class. With this battery we will have a range of 357 km on the WLTP combined cycle and 487 km on the WLTP medium-low cycle (equivalent to what is known as the urban cycle). It can then be recharged through the water-cooled on-board charger (OBC) with an 11 kW capacity, so it can be used with domestic AC power outlets or at public stations. It also comes standard with a DC charging system and a CCS combined charging system, allowing it to use charging stations of up to 110 kW, going from 10% to 80% of its capacity in less than 45 minutes.

Nevertheless, as is common in electric vehicles, the driver can also maintain or charge the battery thanks to the energy recovery system that activates when decelerating or braking, with the available modes selectable via the paddles behind the steering wheel. It should also be noted that, if desired, Mercedes-Benz offers its Wallbox for fast charging at home, with professional advice and quick, easy installation thanks to the brand’s collaboration with Iberdrola.

The new Mercedes-Benz EQV will reach dealerships next September with a starting price of 78,885 euros, which includes the basic Mercedes me services, remote access and navigation services for three years and, for the first four years, an integrated maintenance package.
