The new MINI will have five body styles according to Car

The first, the three-door, will arrive next year. New additions will include another five-door based on the traditional one, an estate larger than the Clubman, and a three-box saloon.

At first glance, a year may still seem like a long time for the current generation of the British-German compact, the R56, given that it has been with us for more than five years. However, BMW will have to work very hard to update it, and the latest production version, the Paceman, will serve as a way to buy time. The British magazine Car states that six months later, still in 2013, the completely redesigned MINI will appear.

The next variant, known by the code F56, will be based on a new modular platform that both BMW and MINI will use in their products. As far as the British brand is concerned, the publication has recently described, according to its sources, the body styles that will come from it. The first of all, as is obvious, will be the traditional three-door that no MINI can do without.

In the summer of 2014 an unprecedented five-door body style will go on sale under the code F54, which will have the mission of taking on the Audi A1 Sportback or the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class. From that same version, only a year later, will derive the next Clubman, with one fewer side door and whose length will increase by about 25 centimetres, which will translate into more interior space.

During the spring of 2016 MINI will launch the Sportvan, with the code F58. It will also have five doors, but its roof will be lower and its length probably even greater than that of the Clubman. Finally, in the autumn of that same year, the eccentric and nostalgic concept that died with the Riley Elf and Wolseley Hornet will be revived: a three-box MINI, the F59, ready to steal sales from the Audi A3 Saloon. As you know from the latest news, the Rocketman is no longer in the brand’s plans.

Assuming that the predictions of Car magazine are correct, and they seem very reliable, those who would have wanted MINI to correct its past mistakes and return to its original essence… have not been lucky this time either.
