The Scion FR-S would not have a turbo, and the Subaru BRZ, perhaps

The Subaru BRZ and the Scion FR-S would not get turbo editions of their respective variants of the GT-86 coupé.

A new twist on the variants of Subaru and of Scion (for the US) of the much-discussed Toyota GT-86, since Car and Driver has reported that, for now, neither of the two models will have a turbo, and will have to make do with the naturally aspirated two-litre engine.

The news comes at a time when Toyota had begun testing a turbo version of the GT-86. According to the “close contacts” cited by the magazine, it is not ruled out that the Toyota model may get a turbo in one of its special editions, while the Subaru model does not entirely rule out the possibility of having one either.

The reason the BRZ or the FR-S would not include a turbo is that the price at which it would have to be sold would cost them customers against the competition, something none of the three brands wants, with a model that has only just begun to earn its market share through hard work.

So what will the solution be for those who want more power? Most likely the adoption of an engine with greater displacement for future versions from Subaru or Scion, or simply a imported Toyota GT-86 which, at least for now, would have its turbo version.
