Video: Which V10 sounds better, the one from the Porsche Carrera GT or the one from the Lexus LFA?

Today we bring you a video in which the Porsche Carrera GT and the Lexus LFA face off in a battle of sounds to find out which one sounds better.

The world of supercars has changed a great deal in recent years, relying on all kinds of powertrains in which hybridisation predominates. However, there was a golden age in this same century, led by iconic vehicles such as the Porsche Carrera GT and the Lexus LFA. Both supercars, besides boasting outrageous performance, share a very spectacular trait: a naturally aspirated V10 engine which, unfortunately, is in danger of extinction.

The people at Supercar Driver had the audacity -in the best sense of the word- to bring together these two dream models to discover which of them sounds better. Undoubtedly a difficult task, considering that both the Lexus LFA and the Porsche Carrera GT feature naturally aspirated V10s ready to reach their highest note at the redline, located at very high revs in both cases.

In the case of the Lexus LFA we find a 4.8-litre V10 tuned by Yamaha, ready to delight us with 560 CV and 480 Nm of torque. Thanks to these figures, the Japanese supercar accelerates from 0 to 100 in 3.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 297 km/h. In the other corner stands the Porsche Carrera GT with a colossal 5.7-litre V10 capable of delivering 612 CV of power and 590 Nm of torque.

With this in mind, the German car sprints to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 329 km/h. Neither of them was subject to anti-pollution regulations at the time and, while the LFA was under Yamaha’s wing, the Carrera GT relied on an engine derived directly from racing that had little commitment to the environment. In other words: a true sin in the eyes of any contemporary politician and a work of art for us, dedicated petrolheads.

In both cases it is difficult to choose one of the two supercars. In the case of the Carrera GT we find a somewhat rougher and more disrespectful melody -also in the best sense of the word- yet equally tuned, as if a luthier had built the exhaust system.

The Lexus LFA delights us with a simply perfect tune, high-pitched but not screechy, and melodic. It’s a pity that throughout the footage we don’t get to hear more of the Carrera GT’s symphony. Either way, we are facing a duel of titans worthy of admiration, so, without further ado, music, maestro.
