Volvo begins sales of the EX30 in China from around 25,500 euros at current exchange rates

Although, as they say, comparisons are odious, in Spain the Volvo EX30 is available from 37,500 euros, and can exceed 52,000 euros in the top-of-the-range version.

Just one week ago, Volvo launched its new compact SUV in China, the EX30. Locally produced, this new model has a really attractive price there, available in its most basic version from 200,800 yuan. That works out to roughly 25,500 euros at current exchange rates. The top-of-the-range version, on the other hand, costs 255,800 yuan, just over 32,000 euros at current exchange rates.

Among the EX30’s main features, its front light units stand out, with the classic “Thor’s Hammer” design already seen on other models from the brand, a closed front grille as befits an electric model, 19-inch alloy wheels, a stylised waistline, a short rear window and split vertical rear lights. This urban SUV is available on the Chinese market in five nature-inspired colours: Fluorite Yellow, Sea Cloud Blue, Mist Gray, Crystal White and Agate Black.

Volvo Ex30 Interior

Inside the EX30 it is also immediately evident that we are in a Volvo, with a sophisticated dashboard design, a centre console and well-designed door panels. The vertical ventilation grilles on the dashboard reinforce the model’s SUV style, while the sustainable materials used in the trims and upholstery highlight the brand’s commitment to sustainability. Depending on the exterior paint option, customers can choose the interior in Zinc Gray, Acacia Blue, Pine Green or Fog Blue. The infotainment system, integrated into a 12.3-inch vertical central screen, also doubles as the instrument cluster in this case.

There is a version of the EX30 for every type of customer

Volvo offers the EX30 on the Chinese market in rear-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive with extended range and dual-motor high-performance all-wheel-drive versions. All versions share the same top speed, electronically limited to 180 km/h, although other parameters vary depending on the drivetrain and battery pack combination.

The most basic versions use a single motor delivering 200 kW of power and 343 Nm of torque. The entry-level rear-wheel-drive version has a 49 kWh LFP battery pack, while the extended-range version has a 66 kWh NMC battery pack. The first accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and offers a range of 410 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle. The second reaches 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and can cover 590 km on a full charge, also on the CLTC homologation cycle.

The high-performance all-wheel-drive variant has two motors that together deliver 315 kW and 543 Nm of torque. This version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds. It uses the same 66 kWh NMC battery pack as the mid-range version, which gives it a CLTC range of around 540 km.

Charging times

The 49 kWh LFP battery pack takes six hours to charge fully with a domestic 11 kW AC charger, while the 66 kWh NMC pack takes eight hours. Using a DC fast charger with a supported output of at least 175 kW, it is possible to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 26 minutes in the first case, according to the manufacturer, and in about 28 minutes in the second.

Volvo Ex30 Front

Volvo announced in April that by the end of this year the EX30 will be available in more than 90 countries. To date, this successful compact SUV is already on sale in several European countries. The Swedish manufacturer has also announced that in 2025 it will expand production of this model at its plant in Ghent, Belgium, to meet the high demand it is seeing, especially in Europe but also in other global markets.
