Volvo shows us the engines of the new XC90

Volvo has taken its time to launch the second generation of the XC90, its most versatile and largest vehicle.
That said, we have to admit the Swedes are doing an excellent job with this update, which we will get to know in full over the coming months.
On this occasion, weeks after Volvo revealed the complete interior of this Swedish transatlantic, it is time to learn about the powertrains that will move the XC90, and that will place it at the head of its segment thanks to the large doses of technology and innovation they include.
The XC90 will become one of the best-powered and most eco-friendly models on the market, thanks to a complete range of both diesel and petrol engines. Above all, the inclusion of a Plug-in Hybrid variant stands out, which will sit at the top of the range.

Looking at the diesel versions, two powertrains will be launched in a first phase. Both belong to the Drive-E family, mounted on a four-cylinder architecture. The less powerful will be called D4, and will offer 190 CV and 400 NM. Average consumption will be approximately 5 litres, one of the lowest figures in its segment. The next step up will be the D5: 225 CV and 470 NM for an average consumption of approximately 6 litres.
As for the petrol variants, there will be a total of three, including the hybrid version.
The first engine will be called the T5 and will have 254 CV and 350 NM. The second option will be the T6, which will offer 320 CV and 400 NM.

The star engine will be a Plug-in Hybrid version, combining a two-litre four-cylinder engine with an 80 CV electric motor. The combustion engine will feature direct injection and the combined action of a supercharger and a turbo. The total output of this powertrain (called the T8) will exceed 400 CV and 640 NM, with CO2 emissions below 60 g/km.
