Xpeng improves charging power on its G6 and G9 SUVs
Although for the time being these improvements only apply to the versions on sale in the Chinese market, Xpeng also sells these same models in Europe.
Chinese carmaker Xpeng has just announced some upgrades in its home market for the 2025 edition of its G6 and G9 electric SUVs, two models that are also sold in Europe. This update stands out for the introduction of battery packs with a higher supported charging power, among other improvements, and all at even more affordable prices.
Xpeng has also simplified the number of versions available, going from six to three for both models, and all of them are equipped with batteries that support a 5C charging rate, compared with the 3C of the previous generation. Let us remember that this means the charging power in kW is five times the capacity of the battery pack expressed in kWh. In this way, the time needed to complete a DC fast charge is considerably reduced.

Measuring 4.76 metres long, 1.92 metres wide and 1.65 metres high, the Xpeng G6 stands out from its rivals by featuring an 800V architecture. This model has been on sale in the Chinese market since June 2023. Now, the new versions of this electric SUV from the Chinese manufacturer integrate a single motor on the rear axle with 218 kW of power and 450 Nm of torque, with battery packs to choose from of 68.5 or 80.8 kWh, which allow it to cover 625 or 725 km, respectively, under the Chinese homologation cycle on a single charge.
Less time at the charging point and more time on the road
Although it is true that this range is not a major improvement over that offered by the previous-generation G6 versions, what has improved substantially is the supported charging power, making it now possible to raise the battery charge level from 10 to 80 percent in just 12 minutes. Eight minutes less than before.

The price of the Xpeng G6 in the Chinese market now ranges between 176,800 and 198,800 yuan. That is, at the current exchange rate, between a little over 22 thousand and about 25 thousand euros. This represents a reduction of slightly more than 10 percent.

Meanwhile, the Xpeng G9, with its 4.89 metres of length and a wheelbase of 3 metres, is currently the flagship of the Chinese manufacturer in the SUV segment. This model also has an 800V architecture and is available in the Chinese market in three different versions, two rear-wheel drive and one all-wheel drive, with power outputs ranging from 258 to 423 kW.
A benchmark in its class
In the 2025 edition of this electric SUV, the manufacturer now offers two battery packs to choose from, of 79 or 93.1 kWh of capacity, with CLTC ranges for each of the three available versions of 625, 680 or 725 km, respectively. Likewise, as with its smaller sibling, the G6, these new battery packs have improved the supported charging power, making it now possible to raise the charge level from 10 to 80 percent also in 12 minutes.

The price of the Xpeng G9 in the Chinese market has also been reduced, although not as much as that of the G6. This electric SUV is now available from 263,900 yuan for its most affordable version, up to 359,900 yuan for the top-of-the-range version. At the current exchange rate, this equates to between roughly 33,425 and 45,584 euros.
For now it is unknown whether some of the mentioned technical improvements will also reach the European market in the coming weeks or months, but it does not seem far-fetched to think that they will.
