All the details of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo (II)

BMW Serie 5 Gran Turismo

Once the interior, exterior and part of the equipment of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo have been shown, its equipment remains to be completed and its engines to be revealed, the latter being quite novel since the 5 Series Gran Turismo debuts a new generation of more efficient engines.

For the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, the full range of BMW ConnectedDrive systems is offered, including driver assistance systems with Stop & Go speed control, automatic high-beam assistant, lane change warning system, lane departure warning system, speed limit information, BMW Night Vision with pedestrian detection, Side View, Top View and reversing camera. In addition, BMW ConnectedDrive includes the BMW Online, BMW Assist, BMW TeleServices functions and the emergency call with automatic vehicle location.

In addition to the BMW ConnectedDrive systems, the standard equipment of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo includes, among other items: automatic climate control, audio system, AUX-In connection and an memorised owner’s manual. Optionally, a four-zone climate control system (standard on the BMW 550i Gran Turismo), telecommunication and navigation systems, USB port, an 80 GB hard drive to store your favourite music collection, multi-channel audio system, dual DAB digital radio tuner, rear-seat DVD entertainment system, Head-Up Display virtual display and panoramic glass roof are available.

The engine line-up consists of three models:

The BMW 535i Gran Turismo with a TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder in-line petrol engine, with High Precision Injection direct injection and VALVETRONIC. With a displacement of 2,979 cm3 it produces 306 hp at 5,800 rpm with peak torque of 400 Nm between 1,200 and 5,000 rpm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds, has a top speed of 250 km/h and an average consumption of 8.9 litres/100 kilometres with fairly low emissions of around 209 g of CO2/km.

The BMW 550i Gran Turismo features the most powerful engine, a V8 petrol engine with TwinPower Turbo and High Precision direct petrol injection with a displacement of 4,395 cm3, output of 407 hp between 5,500 and 6,400 rpm and peak torque of 600 Nm between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h. Both consumption and emissions are higher than the 535i, at 11.2 litres/100 kilometres and 263 g of CO2/km.

A diesel option is also available in the 530d Gran Turismo. With an in-line six-cylinder aluminium-block engine, third-generation common-rail direct injection (piezoelectric injectors, maximum injection pressure of 1,800 bar) and a displacement of 2,993 cm3, it produces 245 hp at 4,000 rpm and an outstanding torque of 540 Nm between 1,750 and 3,000 rpm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h, with an average consumption of 6.5 litres/100 kilometres and CO2 emissions of around 173 g/km.

Finally, all models come as standard with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, previously fitted only to the luxury saloon 760i. This new gearbox stands out for its comfort, dynamism and efficiency. Together with the highly advanced engines, the innovative eight-speed automatic gearbox and the numerous measures adopted under the EfficientDynamics strategy, the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo will also set new benchmarks in economy and exhaust emissions.
