Audi A7 Sportback: coupé design, sedan space and the versatility of an Avant

The A7 Sportback combines the lines of a coupé, the space of a sedan and the versatility of an Avant, Audi. It stands out for its great versatility and advanced technology.

The renewal of the Audi A7 Sportback arrives loaded with novelties. The first thing you notice is its new exterior design, which highlights the distinctive Singleframe grille together with the prominent front air intakes, giving it a sporty look. Audi, in this new A7 Sportback, combines the lines of a coupé, the space of a sedan and the versatility of an Avant, features the previous generation already offered. The front light units feature the HD Matrix LED system with laser technology.

At the rear, a integrated spoiler that extends electrically at 120 km/h appears. A strip of light connects the rear light units, each made up of 13 segments. When the doors are locked or unlocked via the central locking, a dynamic animation is created in both the front and rear lights, functioning as a welcome or farewell. The dimensions of the new A7 Sportback are 4.97 metres long, 1.91 metres wide and just 1.42 metres high.

The interior of the cabin also gains in spaciousness. The centre console is oriented towards the driver. At the driving position, the MMI system display is perfectly integrated. Most of the vehicle’s functions can be controlled via two screens with a black panel appearance. The upper display blends almost imperceptibly into the console. The selection of colours, upholstery, inserts and interior lighting helps create a futuristic and relaxed atmosphere. The boot offers a capacity of 535 litres, which can increase up to 1,390 litres when the rear seats are folded down.

The driving experience has become much more dynamic, thanks above all to the optional dynamic four-wheel steering system, which offers direct feel with superior directional stability. On the front axle the steering ratio changes depending on circumstances, and on the rear axle, the wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels or in the opposite direction, depending on speed.

It incorporates the new dynamic four-wheel steering system. The dynamic four-wheel steering system, the optional suspension with damping control, the optional sport suspension and the adaptive suspension with damping control, are controlled by the electronic chassis platform (ECP). The driver can choose various profiles in the Audi drive select, which now offers a greater differentiation between dynamic and comfort.

The new Audi A7 Sportback offers up to 39 driver assistance systems divided into three packages: Parking (arriving throughout 2018), City with the new junction assistant, and the Tour package. It is equipped with the central driver assistance controller (zFAS), which constantly monitors the surroundings thanks to the five radar sensors, a laser scanner, a front camera, four 360-degree view cameras and twelve ultrasonic sensors. The Audi parking pilot and the Audi garage pilot (remote) automatically steer the car into a garage or parking space, both for entering and exiting, using a smartphone.

As could not be otherwise, infotainment is very much present in the new A7 Sportback. The upper display is used to control the infotainment system, while the lower one provides access to climate control, comfort elements, text input and other functions. The driver can also control many functions using the steering wheel controls. As an option, you can fit the head-up display system or MMI Navigation plus, which includes the digital instrumentation Audi virtual cockpit.

Like the A8, it also includes the new mild-hybrid system (MHEV). As regards the engines, Audi incorporates in its powertrains the new mild-hybrid system (MHEV). For now it is associated with the only two available engines, the 3.0 TFSI petrol and a 3.0 TDI diesel. The MHEV system uses a primary 48-volt electrical system and an alternator (BAS) with a recovery power of 12 kilowatts. The A7 Sportback can maintain speed by coasting with the engine off over a wide speed range, and then restart smoothly via the BAS alternator. The start-stop function is now activated from 22 km/h.

The 3.0 TFSI engine is a turbo V6 that delivers 340 CV with 500 Nm of torque. It allows the A7 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h. It is paired with the 7-speed S tronic transmission. The 3.0 TDI produces 286 CV and 620 Nm of torque, achieving 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 5.7 seconds. It is paired with the 8-speed tiptronic gearbox.

Its starting prices on the Spanish market are €81,520 for the Audi A7 Sportback 55 TFSI quattro S tronic, and €76,860 for the Audi A7 Sportback 50 TDI quattro tiptronic.
