BMW M2 Convertibles Sports Cars
The BMW M2 Cabrio becomes a reality, but not from the brand itself; it comes from Lightweight
German tuner Lightweight has decided to create, on its own initiative, a BMW M2 Cabrio. To do so, it has used several elements from the standard M2 and the M4.

Sports cars and convertibles have always been two concepts that go together perfectly because, despite their shortcomings in weight and aerodynamics, a performance engine is always the ideal companion for enjoying the open air. The BMW 2 Series has a convertible version, which can be paired with many diesel and petrol engines, but fans of the model have always missed the presence of the M badge on its rear. Lightweight, a tuner that has decided to create an M2 convertible on its own, shares this sentiment.
The originality of this company, together with a perfect base such as the one offered by the 2 Series Convertible, have been the two necessary elements to bring this retractable-hardtop sports car to life. Thanks to the existence of the M2 Coupé and its bigger brother, the M4, it has been much easier to bring this convertible version to life, which incorporates different components from both models to reach a higher level than normal.
Aesthetically, we find countless parts taken from the conventional M2, such as the front bumper and the rear diffuser, which houses a new exhaust outlet finished in titanium. However, Lightweight has managed to differentiate its new creation from any other BMW with an M badge, which it has achieved with a more radical engine and a tuning setup based on the combination of different elements taken from the M4 and the M2.

On one hand, if we look under the engine bay covered by a new carbon-fibre bonnet, we find the well-known supercharged six-cylinder inline engine that powers the acclaimed M2. This engine delivers 370 CV of power and 500 Nm of torque, but Lightweight has flatly refused to give its creation those figures.
To its delight, the German tuner has carried out a new ECU remapping with the aim of extracting 422 CV and 600 Nm of torque, a figure that comes dangerously close to the M4. At the same time, the gearbox and ABS system from the M4 GTS, the most raw and radical version of the German sports car, have been installed. Just in case that wasn’t enough, the suspension has been reinforced with dampers signed by Blistein, thus offering a more optimal and precise cornering performance.

Lightweight has achieved it, since now all the enthusiasts of BMW will be able to have a genuine M2 convertible in their garage. However, everything has its price, and the German tuner is asking for 75,000 euros, a figure that far exceeds the base price of an M2 Coupé, but which could be realistic if the brand were to bring that version to market.
