The most radical compact is back, watch out for the new BMW M2 CS.

BMW radicalizes the M2 with the exclusive M2 CS version, now lighter than its basic brother and with power that matches the current M3 and M4

The direction that some brands are taking with their sportier models due to electrification is undoubtedly worrying, you only have to see the whale that has come out of BMW with the new M5 to equip the hybrid part and its battery with the sole objective of avoiding sanctions from Europe. Fortunately, in the neighborhoods of M Town, there are still "citizens" who offer us the sportiness and passion of a good BMW M. as for example, the M2.

Perhaps the BMW M4 and especially the M3 continue to offer what any "petrolhead" looks for in a BWM M, but if you really want to go to the modern essence of what once elevated the sports division of the German brand, yours is undoubtedly the BMW M2, and let's enjoy it as much as we can because perhaps, not in many years, it will end up disappearing or becoming something deformed and meaningless like the new M5. For the moment, BMW is still giving it a go, and to prove it, its most anticipated special and limited edition, the BMW M2 CS.

To get here, we could say that the germ of this beautiful story began with the praised and today highly sought-after 1 Series M Coupé, a radical coupé that served to lay the foundations for what would be the first generation of the M2, which, in 2019, arrived accompanied by the M2 CS versionThe BMW M2 has been evolving and developing all these years until the second generation arrived on the market, which, as if it were a breath of fresh air in the turbulent and electrified automotive industry, also finally receives its respective M2 CS version and be careful because we are already talking about big words and a toy not suitable for beginners.

If the BMW M2 became one of the most radical coupés since the birth of its first generation, its successive updates and evolutions have kept it at the top, but with the new M2 CS it seems that it has no ceiling. matching the performance of the current M3 Competition xDrive and M4 Competition Coupé xDrive, all of this without forgetting and taking into account that it has both smaller dimensions and weights than the previous two, which makes it easy to carry with good hands a real giant slayer.

In this way, under the new M2 CS we continue to find the same 3.000 cc in-line six-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology which increases its power by 50 HP, that is, we go from 480 HP delivered by the basic M2 to the 530 CV of the M2 CS along with a torque that also rises to the 650 Nm and is available between 2.650 and 5.730 rpm, which is sent to the rear axle through the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic as standard. Thanks to these changes it accelerates to 100 km/h in an impressive 3,8 seconds (3,5 seconds using the 1-foot rollout method) and needs just 11,7 seconds to reach 200 km/h, while the top speed is limited to 302 km / h thanks to the M Driver's Package included as standard.

This inline six-cylinder engine, which will scream a sweet melody through the M-specific exhaust system with electrically controlled flaps and four tailpipes (optionally replaceable by the M Performance exhaust with carbon and titanium tailpipe trims), is able to reach these new power figures thanks to modifications to the engine management, a lightweight forged crankshaft, cylinders with a wire-arc sprayed iron lining and a 3D-printed core for the cylinder head, not to mention a specific cooling system which helps to maintain the unit at optimal temperature.

Obviously all this has also involved changes at the chassis level, which It has been lowered by 8 mm and receives specific settings for its springs, dampers and control systems, as well as other elements such as the M Servotronic steering, the M Sport differential and the integrated braking system, the latter being the M Compound with red brake calipers as standard and optionally replaceable with M carbon-ceramic brakes. In addition, for differential circuit driving it has also been fine-tuned with specific settings for the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and the M Dynamic Mode.

As if that were not enough, BMW has also reduced the weight of the set by 30 kilograms thanks to the use of numerous exterior and interior components made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), such as the mirror housings, the roof, the rear diffuser, the splitter front or the trunk lid with its characteristic "ducktail" spoiler. To all this we must add the M forged light alloy wheels in exclusive double-spoke design and matt Gold Bronze finish, measuring 19 inches for the front axle and 20 inches for the rear axle, with standard track tires. Optionally, an ultra-track tire and a standard sport tire with the same dimensions can be substituted upon request (the latter free of charge).

The interior of the BMW M2 CS also receives changes compared to the basic M2, combining Alcantara with CFRP as in the center console. It has heated M carbon fiber front seats and weight-optimized with electric adjustments and illuminated CS logo, in which the integrated headrests can be removed and equip multi-point harnessesThe flat-bottomed steering wheel obviously has shift paddles and the typical 12 o'clock mark, carbon fiber inserts, Anthracite-coated roof and door sills with illuminated M2 CS logo.

When the beast calms down and is used to enjoy driving and why not also to travel, the BMW M2 CS is equipped as standard with elements for this such as climate dual-zone automatic, comfort access, surround sound system Harman Kardon y BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW Maps navigation, BMW Curved Display y BMW Head Up Display, as well as driver assistance systems such as front and rear sensors, forward collision warning, cruise control with braking function, speed limit information function with no-passing indicator, lane departure warning, and parking assistant with reversing assistant. BMW also offers optional Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function and the Driving Assistant.

At the moment BMW has not revealed how many units of the new M2 CS will be manufactured or what its price will be for Spain, but stay tuned because we will soon find out, since what they have confirmed is that Its market launch will take place at the end of this coming summer.
