Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport: tyre problems put owners on alert

A design error by Michelin means that the tyres fitted to this model may suffer problems and have to be replaced after 4,000 kilometres.

Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport Llamada Revision

Owning a Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport is a real source of pride. It is one of the most attractive versions of a supersports car that is a small marvel. A car that costs around four million euros, depending on the configuration each owner has chosen, and that has a top speed of 350 km/h, but only because it has been limited. A beast designed for track use or very demanding roads.

However, owners of one of these cars face a fairly serious problem. The integrity of the tyres has been compromised due to a design flaw. Michelin, the company that supplied the tyres used on this version of the model, has announced that greater wear than expected occurs and that cracks may appear on the surface of the tyre.

Given that this is a vehicle that operates at high speeds, even if only on track, this is a problem that causes considerable concern. It is also a concern if the car is only used on ordinary roads. And driving one of the most expensive cars in the world and having to call a tow truck because of a blowout can be quite frustrating for whoever is behind the wheel.

The problem affects the 60 units produced and sold in different countries. According to the NHTSA, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, tyre damage can occur from 4,000 kilometres onwards. Bugatti wants to get ahead of this problem and offers to replace the tyres from 3,000 kilometres or after one and a half years from the date of purchase of the vehicle.

For owners of vehicles that have already exceeded that distance or are more than one and a half years old, the manufacturer recommends that the car not be driven until the tyres have been replaced. The problem was detected in September and, thanks to communication with Michelin, it was possible to determine which batch had suffered this design error. All production went to the Chiron Pur Sport, so it was easy to locate the affected tyres.

Production of the variant has been suspended until new parts capable of withstanding the characteristics of the supercar can be manufactured. Once all buyers have been contacted, the brand will cover the cost of replacing the tyres to guarantee the safety of all of them.
