Bugatti says goodbye to the W16 engine: its hybrid hypercar will have a different engine
The next model from Bugatti will be a hybrid car that will do without the W16 engine that has starred in several of the brand’s models until now.

Recently we had the chance to see the birth of the new Bugatti W16 Mistral, the convertible version of the powerful and spectacular Chiron. A car that promises the driver to repeat the experiences of the Chiron , but with the addition of a convertible roof. Bugatti has also announced its successor, which will also feature a hybrid drivetrain and will arrive in a few years.
We don’t know much about this new project from the supercar maker, but one thing seems certain: the new model will not feature the W16 engine that starred in Bugatti’s greatest successes. This is what emerges from the statements of Achim Anscheidt, Bugatti’s design director, to Autocar.

In this interview, the brand’s design head says they are looking for new ways to make this model something special. According to him, a smaller engine will give the design team more opportunities to experiment, and they can prepare a powertrain that offers the same spark to the driver, but with different characteristics.
This engine, due to its size and the limitations implicit in that circumstance, will be different and will have reduced power and performance. Even so, the driving experience is expected to be very similar thanks to the hybrid system that the car will be equipped with.
Although he resisted giving details about the future model, Anscheidt has assured that the engine will have fewer cylinders, fewer turbochargers and a displacement below 8.0 litres. That said, he also said the driver won’t feel any of that, since the hybrid system will provide what is needed to compensate for that difference.
The new model will be ready for the market in 2027 and will be a car that, we are sure, will not disappoint any of those waiting to get behind the wheel of Bugatti’s new supercar.
