Chery debuts in the German market with the Jaecoo 7 SHS plug-in hybrid SUV
Offering a seven-year or 150,000 km warranty on the vehicle and eight years on the battery pack, Chery aims to build trust in order to drive its growth in one of the most demanding automotive markets in the world.
The Chinese manufacturer Chery has just officially entered the German market with its brands Omoda and Jaecoo, taking a truly important step in its expansion across Europe. The model chosen for its debut in this central European country has been the Jaecoo 7 SHS, a compact SUV with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
This model is based on Chery’s Super Hybrid System (SHS) platform, unveiled last September at the IAA Mobility in Munich. This innovative platform allows this model to achieve a combined range of up to 1,200 km, placing it above most of its competitors in this respect. The Jaecoo 7 SHS is also capable of covering up to 90 km in fully electric mode without consuming a single drop of petrol. All these range figures are based on the WLTP homologation cycle.

The hybrid system of the Jaecoo 7 SHS combines a 105 kW petrol engine with an electric motor delivering up to 150 kW, with a continuous output of 70 kW. The combined total system output is 205 kW with 365 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the battery pack, which uses LFP cells, has a capacity of 18.3 kWh and accepts AC charging at a maximum of 6.6 kW, as well as DC charging of up to 40 kW.
An affordable SUV that will catch the attention of many
With a starting price in Germany of €36,900, the Jaecoo 7 SHS presents itself as an attractive alternative for German drivers interested in a mid-size electrified SUV. Chery has chosen a plug-in hybrid model for its German debut in order to avoid the special tariffs imposed by the European Union on fully electric vehicles imported from China. Although this move may not turn out entirely well for the Chinese manufacturer, if the European Union ends up levying duties on this type of vehicle as well.
Omoda and Jaecoo, the two brands of the Chinese manufacturer Chery, were created specifically for the company’s commercial operations in international markets. These two brands are aimed at completely different audiences. Omoda targets an urban and modern profile, while Jaecoo is associated with outdoor freedom and off-road ruggedness.

Chery has been operating for some time, and with a certain degree of success, in other European countries, as is the case in Spain. The subsidiary Omoda & Jaecoo Deutschland GmbH, based in Frankfurt, is responsible for managing both brands in Germany, and has begun gradually building a dealership network in this central European country. The company has also prioritised the availability of a solid after-sales infrastructure, with the aim of guaranteeing the reliability of its vehicles and, consequently, customer satisfaction from the very first moment.

“This is a very special moment for us. With great respect for this demanding market, we have spent almost a decade laying the groundwork with our R&D centre in Raunheim. The Jaecoo 7 SHS represents our first commercial step with a product that has already shown great acceptance in other European countries and which, as a PHEV, perfectly meets the current needs of German drivers.”
