The plug-in hybrid version of the Hyundai Tucson has now arrived in Spain, and these are the main features of this variant, along with its starting price.

The best-selling SUV from Hyundai now has a plug-in hybrid version, which has been presented for the international market. The Hyundai Tucson comes with mild hybrid versions with petrol and diesel engines. Now, it completes the range with a plug-in hybrid version that qualifies for the DGT 0 environmental label.

The hybrid propulsion system of the Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid consists of a 1.6-litre T-GDi Smartstream engine, working alongside a 66.9 kW electric motor. Working together, they deliver a power output of 265 CV and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. The electric motor, for its part, offers a maximum torque of 309 Nm, so when it runs on its own, it is perfectly capable of delivering good performance.

To complement this good performance, the Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid uses a 6-speed 6AT automatic gearbox. The front grille has an active system that regulates the intake of air according to the engine’s cooling needs, so that it offers less air resistance when it does not need to be open.

The vehicle’s hybrid system allows it to use the electric motor preferentially under low-speed driving conditions. The 13.8 kWh lithium polymer battery allows the Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid to run in fully electric mode for 50 kilometres on the WLTP cycle.

The battery can be charged through a 7.2 kW charger in a wallbox or from a standard domestic power socket, although in this case charging takes much longer. The battery’s location provides generous interior space and good boot capacity, which at 558 litres increases the available space by 9% compared with the previous version.

As for all-wheel drive, the Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid features four-wheel traction thanks to the Hyundai HTRAC system. The Terrain Mode selector provides safe driving on difficult terrain. HTRAC variably distributes driving power to the front and rear wheels depending on traction conditions and driving needs, while the Terrain Mode selector optimises power, torque and braking according to the driving conditions selected by the driver.

Optionally, the ECS can be selected, which controls the adaptive suspension according to the needs of each moment. The ECS automatically and continuously controls the vehicle’s dampers to maximise comfort and driving performance. Damping can also be adjusted through the two driving modes, Eco or Sport.

The exterior design follows the same path as the rest of the versions. Inside, it includes a 10.25-inch screen for the digital instrument cluster and another of the same size for the information and entertainment system. In addition, there is a good range of driver assistance systems to make the driving experience as appealing as possible.

The Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid is available in Spain from 31,600 euros.
