Jaguar shows the first images of the fully electric prototype that will mark the beginning of its new era

Jaguar bet everything on electric mobility, and its first model is very close to being presented: a four-door GT with a premium character

Jaguar is another of those brands that decided at the time to set aside combustion and hybrid engines to embrace electric propulsion. Reality is marking different times, but when companies of this size make these decisions, reversing course means many billions. In fact, since June Jaguar no longer manufactures combustion engines, which has caused them another problem: their vehicle stock is at rock bottom.

Jaguar’s planning, at least as seen from the outside, has not really been the most suitable, regardless of whether you made a mistake by betting everything on the electric vehicle when the market demands hybrids and still demands combustion. What is clear is that if you make this turn in your production, you need to already have a solid, established base of electric vehicles, something Jaguar has not done, which means you have an increasingly reduced stock while waiting for production of your first fully electric vehicle to begin at some point in 2025.

That vehicle is already here, but for now it is called the Design Vision Concept and, as its name suggests, it is still a prototype in the testing phase. It is worth noting, however, that Jaguar has already completed with this future model tens of thousands of kilometers of virtual and physical testing. Unfortunately for Jaguar, its market launch will be delayed a little longer, since it still has to carry out tests at dedicated facilities and on public roads. Meanwhile, a preview of this model will be presented on 2 December at Miami Art Week.

Jaguar had already anticipated some other details about this future model, and although we now see it under a thick layer of camouflage, it confirms what we had been told. It will be built on the dedicated electric architecture JEA (Jaguar Electric Architecture), taking the form of a four-door GT of large dimensions, with apparently not very rounded lines. Its bonnet is elongated, with a matte grille that changes its shapes compared to what we are used to, and a lower section that emphasizes its width; while from the side we see wheel arches to house very large wheels and a roofline that slopes gently down to the tailgate, merging into an imposing rear.

We know it will be fully electric and presumably a high-flying GT, ready to compete against rivals such as the Porsche Taycan or the Audi e-tron GT, so Jaguar has promised that its powertrain will be capable of delivering 575 CV and a range that should be around 700 kilometers according to the WLTP test cycle. With these figures it should rank very high among premium electric cars; in fact, don’t expect it to be a vehicle that is especially accessible to the mass market.
