As you know and as we have already told you on previous occasions, electrification in the two-wheeler world is progressing much more slowly than in cars, and it is also focused on small motorcycles and urban scooters. But there is one brand that wants to change the pace of this transition and begin bringing more sustainable motorcycles to the general public: Kawasaki.

Only a few days ago, Kawasaki presented its new family of fully electric motorcycles, initially made up of the Ninja-e1 and Z-e1, to which more models with superior features will join in the future. Now the Japanese brand is taking this segment a step further and officially presents the first hybrid motorcycle in history: the Ninja 7 HEV, which is expected to reach dealerships in early 2024.

The data Kawasaki has revealed so far indicates that the Ninja 7 HEV will have a hybrid heart consisting of a 451 cc twin-cylinder petrol engine linked to a transmission that can operate in manual or automatic mode, working together with an electric motor. Its combined performance figures have not been disclosed, although, according to the manufacturer, the Ninja 7 HEV will offer performance comparable to a conventional mid-range motorcycle.

Users of the Kawasaki Ninja 7 HEV will be able to manage the engine’s performance using the Sport-Hybrid, ECO-Hybrid and EV modes, the latter for running fully electric over short distances at low speed, that is, in urban environments. It also includes other features such as idle stop, a kind of start/stop system that shuts off the combustion engine when stopped to save fuel and reduce emissions; the Automatic Launch Position Finder (ALPF), which automatically engages first gear when stationary; or the Walk mode, like its electric siblings, which assists with low-speed parking maneuvers.

Embracing this hybrid powertrain is Kawasaki’s well-known multi-tubular frame, specially designed for this model, to which the lithium-ion battery pack located under the rider’s seat is also attached, close to the center of gravity to ensure ideal weight distribution. All of this is partially hidden under the fairing, which combines matte lime green with silver and black.

Once in the saddle, the Kawasaki Ninja 7 HEV will be a comfortable and undemanding motorcycle for route riding or long journeys of hundreds of kilometers. The rider sits in a relaxed position without leaning excessively over the tank, thanks to the high semi-handlebar mounted above the upper triple clamp. It also features controls designed for intuitive and easy use, allowing the rider to operate the various functions, which, along with the rest of the information, are displayed on the color TFT screen with smartphone connectivity.
