Leapmotor begins accepting pre-orders for the B05 compact in China

The Leapmotor B05 will also reach the European market, although we will still have to wait a few months before seeing it on the streets and roads of the continent.

Leapmotor has started pre-sales in its local market of the brand’s first compact electric vehicle and, as a result, it has been forced to reveal some technical details about this model that we did not yet know. In China, this model will be sold under the name Lafa 5, and the higher-equipped versions will incorporate a LiDAR sensor integrated into the roof to improve safety.

The Chinese manufacturer presented the B05 at the IAA Mobility 2025, held last September in the German city of Munich. However, its main specifications were not revealed on that occasion, nor was the European price list.

In China, the price of this compact electric car starts at 105,800 yuan, which amounts to roughly 12,800 euros. The Chinese manufacturer offers five versions in total with different trim levels, with prices going up to 131,800 yuan for the top-of-the-range version, about 16,000 euros at current exchange rates. The official launch is scheduled for November 28th, with immediate deliveries practically that same day. Reservations are already possible by paying a deposit of just 99 yuan (about 12 euros), which also grants access to a discount of 12,500 yuan (about 1,500 euros).

Other technical specifications to consider

With a length of 4.43 metres, this four-door compact model is available with two battery packs to choose from, of 56.2 or 67.1 kWh, with which it is possible to travel between 515 and 605 km, respectively, always under the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle. On the other hand, when it comes to charging, although the manufacturer has not disclosed the supported charging power, we do know that it can increase the state of charge from 30 to 80 percent in 18 minutes.

Additionally, it should be noted that the B05 is available exclusively with a single motor on the rear axle, which can produce 132 or 160 kW of power depending on the chosen version. Its top speed is limited to 160 or 170 km/h, also depending on the version, and the higher models in the range stand out for featuring advanced safety systems, including a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, managed by a powerful Qualcomm 8650 SoC with 200 TOPS of computing capacity.

Following this launch on the Chinese market before the end of the year, by mid-2026 Leapmotor plans to sell the B05 Ultra, a sportier variant with a specific body kit, an enlarged rear spoiler and an exclusive matte paint finish. The standard B05 is also expected to reach other markets outside China next year, including Europe.
