Opel Astra Cross 2023: this is how the crossover version of the German compact could look
The new generation of the Opel Astra, expected at the end of summer, will bring a crossover variant of the model for the first time

The Opel Astra is one of the most representative and iconic models of the German brand for quite a few years now, no less and no more than since 1991, when the legendary Astra F hit the market.
With the launch of the sixth generation of the model, expected for September, we know that the Astra family will include a crossover variant, following the trend of other brands and the roadmap of Stellantis.
A crossover between the Astra and the Grandland
A few days ago we brought you the first teasers of the new generation of the compact, a generation that will consist of the standard Opel Astra, the Sports Tourer version and this Astra Cross, which will be positioned between the standard version and the recently facelifted Opel Grandland, the compact SUV from the brand with the lightning bolt.

Opel has decided to bet on the crossover format because of the great potential this type of vehicle has. Crossovers sit between conventional versions and SUVs, and they have numerous advantages, such as better dynamic behaviour thanks to their lower centre of gravity and a lower drag coefficient, a very important factor when it comes to fuel consumption.
The Opel Astra Cross project already has its internal code within the company, called OV54, and we know it is progressing in parallel with its sibling in the group, the Peugeot 308 SUV with code P54.

As for design, the upcoming Opel Astra Cross will feature a five-door body, following the current trend, and a styling that differs from the standard version, with the classic wide black wheel arches of SUVs that give it a sense of greater height.
The new Vizor-style grille will also be found on this Astra Cross, accompanied by the new light signatures we saw in the teaser and a rounded roofline that gives it a more dynamic and attractive look.

The interior will feature the new PurePanel design philosophy, with a screen behind the steering wheel as the instrument cluster, joined to the infotainment system screen in the centre of the dashboard, as we can see in the new Opel Mokka or the upcoming standard Astra.
The engine range of the upcoming Opel Astra Cross will follow the line of those already fitted to its Stellantis group cousins, the Peugeot 308 and the DS 4, which share the same (EMP2) platform as this Astra that is yet to arrive.

This range consists of three-cylinder 1.2 PureTech petrol engines of 110 and 130 CV and a 1.5 BlueHDi 130 CV diesel unit. The 0-label version will be led by the plug-in hybrid that combines the 1.6 PureTech petrol four-cylinder with an electric motor, producing 180 CV in the less powerful version and 225 CV in the more powerful one.
