Opel Mokka Electric: the electric SUV now with more range

The Opel Mokka-e is renamed Mokka Electric, and it gets a more powerful motor and a larger-capacity battery, exceeding 400 km of range.

Opel Moka E

Here is the Opel Mokka Electric, the new name that Opel is introducing for the Opel Mokka-e, which arrives with significant improvements to make the compact SUV from Opel a much more interesting and attractive option. And not only because of the greater range, with a whopping 20% improvement. The new Opel Mokka Electric is more powerful, more fun to drive and more efficient. The downside, as always in these cases, is how the owner of the Mokka-e will feel.

It has not even been two years since the Opel Mokka-e went on sale, and now it receives an interesting evolution that is not “scalable” for owners of the electric SUV. The other option is for the earlier Mokka-e variants, with a 50.8 kWh battery and a 136 CV motor, to coexist with this new Mokka Electric, whose details we will now share, and for the price to justify the difference in range.

More powerful motor, larger-capacity battery

For now, the evolution is logical, following the same path as the new Peugeot e-208, to name one. Adapting the propulsion system that the Stellantis Group debuted on the Peugeot e-308, which the just-presented Opel Astra Electric also uses, the Mokka Electric’s motor now delivers a power of 115 kW (156 CV), and the battery’s capacity increases slightly to 54 kWh.

With an average energy consumption under the WLTP cycle of 15.2 kWh, which improves thanks to changes in electronic management and the use of a heat pump, it achieves a homologated range of 406 km, compared with the 335 km announced for the 136 CV Mokka-e, which for now remains on sale in the brand’s configurator, in GS Line and Business Elegance versions.

There are no changes to the design or interior of the Mokka Electric. Nor are there any new charging options for the battery: up to 11 kW of power using alternating current with the standard on-board charger, and up to 100 kW with fast charging, which allows an 80% charge in about 30 minutes.
