Spyker is on a roller coaster: back to the edge of the abyss

The Dutch manufacturer had planned for 2021 to be the year of its revival, with plans that included building cars and opening dealerships

Spyker Cars N.V., one of the most exotic manufacturers in the automotive sector, closely tied to the aerospace industry, is once again in the spotlight, but, like a pandemic graph with successive waves, its situation now appears, at the very least, once again headed toward the abyss.

According to what we published at the end of this summer, Spyker’s website was active again, meaning, like a street-level store, the company from the Netherlands had lifted its closure. In September, the brand invited people to tune in and learn about the plans it would have in 2021, the year of relaunching the manufacturing and sale of its beautiful cars.

In fact, the roadmap advanced the opening of a branch in the Principality of Monaco, no less, with signs of a restrained but deliberate expansion of its dealerships into other countries or locations where Spyker could offer its new cars.

According to the Dutch outlet RTL Nieuws, Spyker Cars is once again in limbo, on the brink of the abyss, close to dissolving again with more sorrow than glory, once more and for the third time.

Spyker’s plans are once again dissolving

According to information from the outlet, which is also native to the brand, Victor Muller, the company’s CEO who was also CEO of Saab, has confirmed the bankruptcy declaration of the companies that make up Spyker Cars N.V., the consortium that brought together the activities of the firms that had been separated into the companies under the names Spyker Events and Spyker Services.

Likewise, Muller himself has confirmed that the money that was going to allow Spyker Cars N.V.’s commercial plans to be revived from two Russian investment groups never arrived.

This situation led the heads of each of these divisions, Willem Jan van Andel of Spyker Events and Dennis Steffens of Spyker Services, to declare bankruptcy for each one, a situation that dragged the parent company into the same state.

In his statements to the Dutch outlet, Muller is optimistic: he announces that he will not cease his efforts to reactivate Spyker’s factories and that he still has some chance of receiving investment, apart from the Russian funds that came to nothing.

We will see, then, whether in the coming months, or year, we hear news of them again… or not. At this point, the only thing that seems clear is that the Spyker website is once again showing as down.
