Among other news, the Japanese will unveil an updated version of the Forester, a model that has already become a true institution within the brand.

The Forester sold so far had undeniable qualities, such as driving dynamics noticeably above the average of its segment, as well as very technological powertrains and very good off-road capabilities thanks to its well-known symmetrical permanent all-wheel-drive system.

However, those qualities were partly overshadowed by points such as a somewhat bland design, an overly serious interior and equipment that is rather outdated compared with rivals that have recently upped their game at breakneck speed.

Subaru is aware of this and has decided to use this year’s Swiss show to present a renewal of the SUV. Basically, it is an update of a stylistic nature, which also improves the possible level of equipment and the perceived quality, making it more attractive to potential buyers.

On the outside, the new Forester features redesigned bumpers, elliptical LED headlights, more attractive rear lights, new body colours and 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels with redesigned patterns. Inside, the changes focus mainly on improving perceived quality, with better materials and trims, new brown-toned décor and new finishes for some switches and trim pieces.

The interior has noticeably improved its perceived quality thanks to new trims and more refined materials

A new steering wheel taken directly from the Outback has also been incorporated, with a more modern design and a more pleasant feel, as well as more modern instrumentation with a colour display. The driver’s seat can now have memory for two different positions.

Mechanically, the Forester keeps its line-up unchanged. Last year the powertrains were already put through the mill to adapt them to the new anti-pollution regulations, so this time it is not necessary. Thus, the Forester will continue to offer two mechanical options, a naturally aspirated 2.0 petrol and a turbocharged 2.0 diesel, both with 150 CV. Of course, the drive system will remain the famous brand-signature symmetrical permanent all-wheel drive, which has brought so much success to the Japanese company.

Although the engines have not undergone changes, other elements have, such as the suspension, which receives a new setup on both axles to make it more comfortable, or the power steering, which is now more direct, going from 3.1 to 2.8 turns lock to lock. The glass is now thicker, with more soundproofing materials.

Despite all the improvements introduced, the Forester will see no change in its prices, also maintaining the discount of €2,500 for the Sport versions and €2,000 for the rest of the trims.
