Subaru Solterra: the new electric SUV is revealed in its first images

Toyota’s upcoming 100% electric SUV is already in the final stretch before its presentation, as revealed in these images of its exterior and interior

Subaru Solterra

The Subaru Solterra was presented a few months ago not as the brand’s first electric SUV, but as the first electric vehicle to join the Japanese brand’s product line-up.

Like many other manufacturers, Subaru is in the midst of an electrification transformation to adapt to the times we live in and, above all, to those to come. Times in which, although enthusiasts may find it hard to accept, combustion engines have their days numbered and electric vehicles are the future.

Electric, but always Subaru

With this new SUV developed together with Toyota, Subaru aims to bring to market a versatile and attractive car without abandoning the DNA that every Subaru has and which, in our opinion, must never be lost.

The brand has shown us the first images, which give a fairly clear view of the exterior and interior design of this new Solterra, a mid-size SUV – around 4.5 metres long – with a crossover-style look and rather sleek lines.

At the front, its front light units are quite sharp, combined with the shape of its grille and bumper, giving it a fairly youthful appearance that nevertheless makes it clear you are looking at a Subaru.

Quite a few plastic trims

From the side, the new Solterra features pronounced, angular creases that give it a very distinctive character. The large number of plastic trims on the front and rear bumpers and wheel arches stands out, especially at the front, which covers a large part of the surface and gives it a more rugged, off-road look.

At the rear, it has LED light units with a fairly distinctive design and angular shapes along the tailgate. A rear spoiler has also been fitted which, seen from the side, has a dynamic and attractive look.

High-tech, cutting-edge interior

Inside the Solterra, we highlight a digital instrument cluster, a fairly avant-garde dashboard design and an infotainment system integrated into the central console, which extends over the dashboard and is very generous in size.

On this central console we find a rotary selector that could serve as a gear selector, and a panel that looks like a touchscreen for navigating the infotainment system without having to touch the display.

Subaru Solterra

The Subaru Solterra will arrive during 2022 and will be sold in Japan, China, the United States and, finally, on our continent. From this point on, it will have to compete in the C-SUV segment, where we find major rivals such as the Hyundai IONIQ 5, the Kia EV6, the Volkswagen ID.4 or the Skoda Enyaq IV, which we have already tested.
