The new Audi A6 e-tron expands its line-up with a new entry-level powertrain and another sporty version, the latter positioned one step below the S6 e-tron

When Audi decided to bet on electric mobility, they did so wholeheartedly: gradually they would abandon combustion engines and adopt platforms that would only accommodate fully electric powertrains. Judging by reality, the bet has not paid off, at least for now, because today most of society rejects this type of vehicle, and many of those who switch to electric mobility do so because they are obliged to, not because they need to or because it is worth it.

So, regardless of the country, the adoption of electric mobility is advancing slowly. If we look more specifically at countries such as Spain, it simply isn’t taking off, no matter how many purchase incentives are offered or how many new charging points are installed. It just doesn’t convince or appeal, especially outside the big cities. That is why brands that have clearly committed to this kind of mobility, such as Audi, sweat every time they present a new electric model, like the new A6 e-tron, a beautiful saloon that would undoubtedly win over many more drivers if it had combustion engines.

Since last September, the Audi A6 e-tron has been on sale in Spain, available with the Performance powertrain, which produces 270 kW (367 CV), and the S6 e-tron version, the latter being the sportiest thanks to a power output of 370 kW (503 CV). Now the Audi A6 e-tron expands its offer with two new powertrains, one entry-level and another sportier one without reaching the excesses of the S6 e-tron. Both, incidentally, are already on sale in Spain, but first let’s look at their features.

New entry-level powertrain

If we opt for this powertrain, we get the same configuration as the Performance version: rear-wheel drive thanks to an electric motor that in this case produces 210 kW (285 CV), which can temporarily increase to 240 kW (326 CV) thanks to the Launch Control function, while maximum torque stays at 500 Nm. As this is the entry-level powertrain, the battery linked to this system is 83 kWh, compared with the 100 kWh battery used across the rest of the range.

With this configuration, available for both bodystyles, the Audi A6 e-tron reaches 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km/h. Combined consumption for the Sportback bodystyle is 13.7 to 15.6 kWh/100 km, while for the Avant it is between 14.4 and 16.6 kWh/100 km, which translates into a maximum range of 624 kilometres for the Sportback and 597 kilometres for the Avant, all according to WLTP homologation.

New sport powertrain

The other powertrain arriving for the Audi A6 e-tron is sport-oriented, so it uses the same configuration as the S6 e-tron: an electric motor on each axle. With this setup the A6 e-tron produces 315 kW (428 CV), temporarily rising to 340 kW (462 CV) thanks to the Launch Control function, with maximum torque of 735 Nm sent to all four wheels via Quattro all-wheel drive.

With this configuration, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.5 seconds, while the top speed remains limited to 210 km/h. For this powertrain Audi does not yet offer energy consumption figures, but it does provide total range, which thanks to the 100 kWh battery is 714 kilometres for the Sportback bodystyle and 685 kilometres for the Avant bodystyle, all according to WLTP homologation.

Both powertrains are already available to order in the Spanish market in any of the available trims, namely Advanced, S line and Black Line. The new Audi A6 Sportback e-tron with its entry-level powertrain starts at 67,980 euros, while the A6 Sportback e-tron quattro starts from 87,320 euros. If we prefer the Avant bodystyle, we will have to pay an extra 2,500 euros on both configurations.
