The BMW M2 plug-in hybrid could reach the market in 2022
The BMW M2 hybrid could arrive in 2022, but in November the limited edition called BMW M2 CS will debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show.

The BMW M2 Competition is one of the most entertaining cars on the market right now. Its power combined with its lightness makes driving this sports car an absolute marvel. That entertainment we have been talking about relies solely on an internal combustion engine. However, even the cars from BMW’s sporting division, BMW M, cannot escape increasingly strict emissions regulations, and electrification could become a way of solving these problems.
Some reports suggest that BMW’s M division is developing a high-end BMW M2 CS that could have a limited, numbered production run, like its big brother the BMW M3 E46 CSL, and will be much faster and lighter than the competition.

However, the future BMW M2 CS will not be the only derivative Munich is considering for its popular sports coupés; some sources have already claimed that a “BMW M2 partially electrified” is just around the corner.
For the time being, no details have been given about this prospective model; however, according to various sources, the BMW M2 will become a full plug-in hybrid, but will adopt electric turbochargers and 48 V mild-hybrid technology. Such a powertrain could give the sports car a small amount of all-electric range while increasing maximum power and torque, without forgetting improved fuel efficiency.

BMW M2 electrified: when will we see the hybrid sports car?
It is not clear when the BMW M2 hybrid in question will be launched, but 2022 is a possibility. If that is the case, the BMW M2 hybrid could be the final iteration of the first-generation model before the launch of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé and, along with it, the new BMW M2.
Whatever the case, it is clear that the Bavarian brand remains committed to its entry-level M cars, and that is good news for all speed lovers and fans of powerful cars. Either way, those looking to buy a radical BMW M2 can put their name down for the new BMW M2 CS. The launch of this German beast is proposed for the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.

The future BMW M2 CS will be powered by the S55 twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine. In addition, everything points to it being able to deliver 450 CV, 40 CV more than the BMW M2 Competition. As for production, it is reportedly limited to just 2,200 units. This engine is also used in the BMW M3 and the BMW M4.
The CS will also be lighter than the competition thanks to the liberal use of carbon fibre on the roof, front splitter, bonnet, rear spoiler, rear diffuser and mirror caps. Lightweight material will also feature throughout the cabin, including the centre console, door handles and seats.

Those interested in the driver-focused BMW M2 CS will be delighted to learn that it will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The latter will help launch the car off the line and to 100 km/h in approximately 4.0 seconds, while the manual should be a couple of tenths slower.
