The BMW X6 M and the BMW X6 M Competition will be presented at the Los Angeles Motor Show next month, and we are sure they will ‘shock’ more than one person.

The third generation of the BMW X6 M has arrived to stay. It now comes accompanied by a much more powerful version. This is the BMW X6 M Competition, and both will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show, which takes place in November of this same year.

According to BMW M, “the general concept revisits the classic M approach of dynamism, agility and precision, combined with the versatility, luxury and bold design that distinguish the BMW X models”.

The new BMW X6 M delivers 600 CV, or 442 kW, paired with a maximum torque of 750 Nm. Estimated fuel consumption figures are 12.5 and 12.7 litres/100 km, with CO2 emissions between 284 and 289 g/km. Its sibling, the Competition, offers the same consumption and emissions figures, but its power rises to 625 CV, 460 kW, with the same torque: 750 Nm.

What powers the new BMW X6 M and the BMW X6 M Competition?

A 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology with a high rev range. It is 25 CV more powerful in the M version and up to 50 CV more in the Competition models compared with their predecessors, reaching 625 CV. The engine features an extremely rigid mounting, cooling systems and oil supply tuned to “a high level of dynamic performance”.

The new high-performance SUVs from the German brand deliver their power through an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. According to the manufacturer itself, “the characteristics of the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, with a rear-biased configuration, can be adjusted in the 4WD and 4WD Sport modes. M xDrive works together with the active M differential to optimise traction and dynamism”.

All of this makes it possible to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, while the Competition version does it in 3.8 seconds. This means the new SUVs are 0.4 seconds faster than their predecessors. “The continuous interaction between powertrain, chassis and body delivers supreme, controllable agility and enormous dynamism. In addition, intensive tuning work was carried out at the Miramas and Arjeplog test tracks, the Nürburgring-Nordschleife and other circuits,” said BMW.

The official presentation will take place during this year’s Los Angeles Motor Show in November. This large SUV, in its two new versions, will be joined by its smaller sibling, the BMW X5, which also debuts high-performance versions: the M and the M Competition.

What makes the BMW X6 M special?

The two new models of the large SUV from the propeller brand feature a wide package of measures to increase the rigidity of the body and the suspension mounts. They also incorporate a specific chassis technology with kinematic and elastokinematic properties tailored to the vehicle. This is combined with M adaptive suspension with electronically controlled dampers, active roll stabilisation, M Servotronic steering and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), which includes the M Dynamic mode. 21-inch M light-alloy wheels at the front and 22-inch at the rear are standard on the Competition models and optional on the BMW X6 M.

As far as braking is concerned, it is equipped with M compound brakes that allow the feel of the brake pedal to be individually configured. Turning to the exterior design, the new BMW X6 M and M Competition offer, for those who take a look, “wide air intakes, double-bar kidney grille, M gills on the front wings, rear spoiler, rear apron with diffuser elements, exhaust system with two pairs of double outlets, and the Competition models have independent design elements”.

Inside, as the Bavarian brand itself states, “the elevated seating position creates a majestic, superior M experience. A generous sense of space, a high degree of variability and M-specific instrument design. BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific readouts is included as standard. M multifunction seats and fine-grain Merino BMW Individual full-leather upholstery are also standard. Exclusive leather upholstery for the Competition models”.

What equipment does the new high-performance BMW X6 come with?

The driver can access the engine settings directly through the configuration buttons. The dampers, steering, M xDrive differential and braking system are just some of the options that can be personalised. Using the M buttons on the steering wheel, two individual variants can be configured.

The M function allows the user to configure, one by one, the driver assistance systems and select the driving mode that interests them most at any given moment. They can choose between Road, Sport and Track on the Competition models.
