The Citroën Grand C4 Picasso will feature the Blue HDI engine with 150 CV

In just over a year, in September 2014, the new Euro VI environmental regulation comes into force, which imposes a considerable reduction in the maximum levels of nitrogen oxide emissions, lowering them from 180 mg/km to 80 mg/km.
Aware of this important change, car manufacturers have already spent some time developing engines that can meet the new environmental requirements. Citroën is thus bringing us today the Blue HDi engine that will debut in the Grand C4 Picasso range.
The engine features a special catalytic converter located downstream of the particulate filter, which converts NOx into water vapour and nitrogen. This occurs thanks to a chemical reaction that first produces ammonia (NH3), which then combines with the nitrogen oxides and oxygen to generate water vapour and nitrogen.
This process requires an additional tank with a capacity of 17 litres. In this way, a 90% reduction in the emission of these pollutants is achieved, along with CO2 emissions of 110 g/km. These are quite respectable figures for the Grand C4 Picasso segment and for an engine that delivers 150 CV of power.
