The FIAT 500 Hybrid is now available in Spain with a launch special edition included

After the failure of the FIAT 500e, the Italian brand had no choice but to backtrack and offer an alternative: the 500 Hybrid, which is now on sale

Fiat500hybrid Range (5)

The FIAT 500e battery-electric idea, like so many others Stellantis has pursued with its brands, has not exactly been what one might call a success… The problem is a combination of factors we have been seeing for a long time, such as the rejection that exists especially towards battery-electric cars, impositions from governments and, of course, the high price that brands assign to them, which makes it difficult for even those who have already decided to make the switch.

Despite this, Stellantis’s solution for the FIAT 500 was to shoot itself in the foot by betting all production on the 500e, which caused sales to plummet due to how little this car offers and the high sum needed to buy it, to the point that production even had to be suspended on several occasions. As a result, FIAT had no choice but to back-pedal on its plans and offer what its customers want, so the solution has been to put the 500 Hybrid on sale.

This solution had to arrive as quickly as possible to mask sales figures and provide enough production for the Mirafiori plant, where it is already in productionFiat500hybridtorino (4) since last November and where it is gradually reaching various markets, including Spain. FIAT’s proposal is what you see: a FIAT 500e whose front grille has been changed to allow the airflow that helps cool the engine and, of course, its heart, which is now a combustion engine; otherwise it is exactly the same.

FIAT has not gone to great lengths with the 500 Hybrid’s powertrain. Under its bonnet is a three-cylinder, 1,000 cc blockFiat500hybrid (19) producing 65 CV and 92 Nm of torque, which also features 48 V mild-hybrid technology. With this configuration, the FIAT 500 Hybrid certifies a combined consumption of 5.2 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 117 g/km under the WLTP cycle, which, together with its equipment, earns it the ECO label.

FIAT has confirmed that the new 500 Hybrid will be offered in Hatchback and CabrioFiat500hybrid (17) body styles, and later also in a 3+1 configuration, while the trim levels are already known: the entry-level one is called POP and includes elements such as the following:
