The Fiat Tipo has already been approved as a taxi for the Spanish capital

At the beginning of the year we witnessed the launch of a model that is generating a lot of buzz, the Fiat Tipo. Its affordable price, a design that European buyers really like, combined with a fairly generous cabin and a 520-litre boot, make this C-segment car a good option for those seeking a fairly well-balanced combination of value for money, comfort and space.

As you know, the Fiat Tipo was first presented as a four-door saloon, with the five-door version and the Station Wagon estate following later. It also won the “Autobest 2016” award, which takes into account various qualities such as those mentioned in the previous paragraph, among others.

For all of the above, the Italian brand has managed to get its new C-segment model approved as a taxi for the city of Madrid. The exterior dimensions also contribute to this, which translate directly into the interior: it measures 4.53 metres long and 1.79 metres wide, and with a wheelbase of 2.63 metres it offers more spacious proportions than its closest rivals, which are also very affordable. Compared with the Seat Toledo or the Skoda Rapid, its wheelbase is almost 3.4 cm longer, while it is 16 cm longer than the Citroën C-Elysée.

As a result, Madrid residents are likely to see more and more taxis of this model from now on, equipped with diesel engines or the turbocharged petrol variant that also runs on LPG. An LPG that, incidentally, is greener and cheaper than petrol itself.

Mechanically, it is available with petrol engines: a 1.4-litre naturally aspirated 95 hp unit and a turbocharged 1.4 with 120 hp, also available with LPG. On the diesel side, the Fiat offers the 1.3 MultiJet II with 95 hp and the 1.6 MultiJet II with 120 hp, both fitted with the Stop&Start system. All of them meet the Euro 6 standard and achieve fairly modest consumption figures.

For private buyers there are two trim levels, Easy and Lounge. The first starts from 9,990 euros with the least powerful petrol engine. The most expensive version is the 120 hp diesel in Lounge trim, priced at 14,500 euros.
