The FIAT Topolino is officially presented to the market in two versions

Following on from a few days ago, FIAT now presents the new Topolino in full, a light quadricycle with a clear Italian essence and a high degree of customisation

The commercial success of the original FIAT 500 lasted until the end of its production in 1955, with more than 519,000 units sold since its debut in 1936, earning a place in the hearts of countless enthusiasts who affectionately nicknamed it Topolino. It is precisely this nickname, given to the FIAT 500, that the Italian brand has taken advantage of to name its new urban electric vehicle aimed at younger buyers.

Just over a month ago FIAT unveiled the first image of the new Topolino, a light quadricycle based on the Citroën AMI, which also belongs to the Stellantis group. The Topolino arrives with a fresher, more youthful look than the AMI’s, with a sportier, more futuristic design inspired by the villages and narrow roads of the Italian coast, aiming to attract the younger members of families, and let us not forget that it can be driven from the age of 15.

When we first saw the FIAT Topolino, its appearance certainly surprised us, with styling that resembles a scaled-down FIAT 600 on the AMI’s platform, but what made it even more striking was the absence of doors, replaced only by a thick braided rope. This will be one of the Topolino’s versions, which will be sold in the doorless version called Dolce Vita and a basic version with doors, both differing only in the sills, the rope and the roof fabric that turns the Dolce Vita version into a convertible, replaced by a glass roof on the closed version.

Both versions, with bodywork available only in Verde Vita colour, feature vintage-style mirrors with a chrome effect and a rear luggage rack, called the Dolcevita Box. There is also a wide catalogue of options for personalisation, such as wood-effect stickers for the doors of the closed version or roof decals for the Dolce Vita version. And that is not all, as you can add items such as a shower, a luggage bag, a USB fan, a Bluetooth speaker, a drinks flask and even seat covers that can be used as beach towels.

Mechanically there are no surprises and, as we previewed, the FIAT Topolino uses the same electric system as the AMI, consisting of an electric motor producing 8.2 CV (6 kW), which more than reaches the maximum speed permitted for this vehicle of 45 km/h. The system also includes a 5.5 kWh battery, with which it can cover 70 kilometres, and which can be fully recharged in three hours using a domestic plug.

The FIAT Topolino will go on sale from November in Italy, and will then gradually be introduced to the rest of the European markets.
