The impressive BMW M5 prepared by AC Schnitzer sets a new record at Sachsenring

The BMW M5, after going through the hands of AC Schnitzer, has become a more radical vehicle, one that has managed to set a new record at Sachsenring.

Car manufacturers have accustomed us to receiving vehicles with a tuning more typical of a racing car than of one designed for public roads. However, these performance levels are often altered by tuners, a type of company dedicated to enhancing the sporting character of the most extreme vehicles in the world. AC Schnitzer wanted to do the same with the BMW M5, one of the most acclaimed saloons, and not only have they managed to improve it, but they have also been able to set a record on the Sachsenring circuit.

The M badge used by BMW enhances all the characteristics of its models regardless of the segment they belong to, but the M5 has been one of those vehicles capable of shaping history. Over time, the German saloon carved out a place among the fastest cars in the world, but on this occasion both BMW and AC Schnitzer have gone much further.

The BMW M5 arrived on the market as a genuine revolution, something it achieved thanks to its aggressive styling and its advanced mechanics. However, the German firm managed to keep intact the essence of the great legacy handed down from generation to generation, while AC Schnitzer has set out to completely revolutionise the concept that BMW originally created.

Let us recall that the new M5 uses a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine capable of delivering 600 CV of power and 750 Nm of torque. With these figures, the performance saloon can reach 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h, electronically limited, but if we add the M Driver’s Package, our M5 can break the 300 km/h barrier.

The performance saloon from BMW is able to put all this power down without problems thanks to its all-wheel-drive system, but it has a surprise up its sleeve. This new system allows the engine’s power to be sent exclusively to the rear axle, so our M5 remains a true drifting machine. However, this has not been enough for the German tuner, who has squeezed even more potential out of the BMW saloon.

After making the appropriate modifications, both cosmetic and mechanical, AC Schnitzer has managed to make the BMW M5 reach 700 CV of power and 850 Nm of torque, reducing the 0 to 100 time to 3.3 seconds, but that is not all. The German tuner has also improved the aerodynamics, giving the M5 an even higher level of efficiency on the track.

Thanks to this tuning, the BMW M5 prepared by AC Schnitzer has managed to set a new record at Sachsenring, where it stopped the clock at an impressive 1:31.71 minutes. In this way, the performance provided by BMW and the fine-tuning courtesy of AC Schnitzer have been two key elements in turning the M5 into the ultimate saloon.
