The Mercedes AMG GT debuts new entry-level variants with the 43 and 53 designations
The newcomer Mercedes AMG GT has opened its doors to two new variants, which carry the 43 and 53 designations and are offered as entry-level engines.

Sports saloons continue to shine brightly in today’s market, as demonstrated by the various brands working with this type of vehicle. Mercedes, one of the most experienced brands in this segment, presented the four-door variant of the AMG GT at the last Geneva Motor Show. This amounts to a high-performance saloon that shares its platform with the E-Class and the CLS and is capable of outpacing numerous supercars. One week ago, the star brand revealed the prices of its latest offspring in our country, but now they have surprised us with the arrival of the 43 and 53 AMG variants.
For some time now, Mercedes has used these numbering systems to refer to the entry-level engines within the AMG category. However, this is not synonymous with reduced sportiness or excitement; on the contrary, the German brand continues to preserve intact the spirit it attributes to its vehicles bearing the AMG designation. In this way, the new four-door sports coupé is ready to welcome new customers and offer them more choices.
Mercedes has also taken the opportunity to introduce the 53 AMG variant, which sits midway between the all-powerful 63 and 63 S AMG. In this way, there are now four options to choose from to power the new AMG GT, which arrives to revolutionise the segment and make life difficult for its main rivals, such as the Porsche Panamera and the upcoming Audi RS7, among others.

As far as styling is concerned, we still find numerous features typical of a Mercedes bearing the AMG designation, something also reflected in the interior of the AMG GT. However, the truly interesting part lies under the bonnet, where two inline six-cylinder engines are housed, capable of considerably improving their performance thanks to the presence of a mild-hybrid system.
If we opt for the AMG GT 43, we will find -as already mentioned- a turbocharged inline six-cylinder capable of producing 367 CV of power and 500 Nm of torque. However, thanks to the presence of the small electric motor, the German saloon is able to increase its torque by 250 Nm for a certain period of time. With these figures, the AMG GT is capable of reaching 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 270 km/h.

If our tastes -and budget- lead us to choose the variant bearing the 53 AMG designation, we will find the same engine but on this occasion with 435 CV of power and 520 Nm of torque. At the same time, this mechanical upgrade is reflected in the performance figures, which declare a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 285 km/h. However, this difference is also reflected in the price, since the AMG GT 43 is available from 95,259 euros and the AMG GT 53 from 109,182 euros, figures at which they are offered in Germany.
