The Mercedes-Benz A 250e and A 250e Sedan are already in Spain with 218 CV, a range of 75 kilometres in electric mode and a price of 39,950 euros

Mercedes-Benz has long since announced its clear intention to embrace a more environmentally responsible mobility. From this need came models such as the EQC and EQV, the first 100% electric members of the three-pointed star brand. However, taking into account the different customer profiles, Mercedes’s engineers quickly developed from the so-called EQ Power a range of plug-in hybrid vehicles, which now also includes the A-Class and its respective variants that, in turn, are already available on the Spanish market.

And the German brand has wanted to take advantage of the latest generation of its quintessential compact to boost the market with a version that is generally reserved for larger vehicles. However, Mercedes has wanted to take the lead with the A 250e and A 250e Sedan, powertrains that would not be far-fetched to see in the GLA and CLA as well.

Apart from adding the “e” at the end of the name, none of these variants shows many aesthetic changes. The only difference you will notice compared to a traditional A-Class is the second charging port it carries to supply the 15.6 kWh battery hidden inside , which powers an electric motor.

But, without a doubt, the most striking aspect of the new A-Class plug-in hybrid is the mechanical side, where two powertrains work together to reduce emissions and increase performance. On one hand, we find a combustion engine, a turbocharged 1.3-litre four-cylinder producing 160 CV of power and 250 Nm of torque; on the other, a 75 kW electric motor is added to raise the figures to 218 CV and 450 Nm of torque.

Thanks to this combination, the A 250e can reach 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds -6.7 for the Sedan- and a top speed of 235 km/h -240 km/h for the Sedan-. However, Mercedes-Benz’s engineers did not only aim to offer better performance with these variants, but also to let their customers save a few euros by not always having to rely on petrol and to enjoy the Zero emissions label.

This is possible thanks to the electric mode offered by the German compact, through which you can cover between 75 and 79 kilometres after a charge of 1 hour and 45 minutes using alternating current (AC), or 25 minutes if using direct current (DC). However, to enjoy these advantages you will need to pay 39,950 euros for the A 250e, a figure that rises to 40,150 euros if you opt for the Sedan body.
