The MG 4 triumphs in China, taking more than 26,000 orders in 15 days

The MG 4 has become a real success in the Chinese market, with 26,000 orders received in just 15 days, and they have had to increase production

The launch of the MG 4 in China has surprised SAIC, the parent company of the brand that has revived the British marque with a fresh outlook. And no wonder, because since this model went on sale just 15 days ago, 26,000 orders have already been received for the car. This has concerned the brand and forced it to set up a new work shift to have the necessary units ready to meet demand.

Until now, the factory producing this model operated on two shifts and had a capacity to produce 15,000 units a month. This figure was sufficient to cover demand, but demand has soared and the expected delays were going to be quite considerable. So they have chosen to introduce a new production shift and reduce the waiting time to receive the purchased unit.

But from SAIC Motor they want to offer buyers an extra touch of peace of mind and, in addition to guaranteeing a delivery time of just 39 days, they offer what they have called the “Delivery Commitment with Peace of Mind”. With this plan, SAIC Motor commits to paying 50 yuan, equivalent to €5.99, for each day the delivery is delayed beyond those 39 days. This compensation is capped at 2,000 yuan, equivalent to 40 days of delay in the delivery time.

The brand has even set aside the traditional way of delivering new vehicles, which is usually done by region. This method is more practical for making deliveries across a territory as large as China, but in this case, and to speed up deliveries, these will be made in order of receipt.

The MG 4 repeats the success of its predecessor

This renewal of the MG 4 was presented at the Chengdu Motor Show and went on sale 15 days ago. Although for now its sales are limited to the Chinese market, it is expected to reach Europe soon. The price in China is 65,800 yuan, equivalent to about €7,880 for the entry level and 99,800 yuan, about €11,950.

It features battery packs with capacities of 42.8 and 53.9 kWh, which allow a range of between 437 and 530 km on the CLTC cycle. When it arrives in Europe, its price will be around €31,500, like the current version, and its range will be adjusted according to the WLTP cycle.
