Model Y Tesla Electric Cars SUV
The new Tesla Model Y Standard 2026 offers the essentials for a lower price
For now, the new Model Y Standard 2026 is only available in the United States, but it is expected to reach Europe soon as well.
The most popular SUV from the North American manufacturer now comes in an even more affordable version, although for the time being only in the North American market. Tesla has launched the new Model Y Standard there, a version that dispenses with any luxury and offers only the essentials in exchange for a reduction of 5 thousand dollars in its final selling price. Will it be enough to win over new customers on a tighter budget?
The Model Y Standard 2026 offers a practical and functional experience. It includes access to the Tesla Supercharger network in the United States and Canada with automatic route planning, and retains some features such as remote control via the mobile app to adjust, for example, the vehicle’s climate from a distance. It also has safety features such as Sentry Mode, but it does without some other features that we will find in the higher versions.

Of all of them, the one that the owners of the Model Y Standard will most certainly miss is the basic version of Tesla’s Autopilot, which comes as standard on all the other versions. Instead, it features adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring, but the driver will have to keep control of the steering wheel at all times.
The new Model Y Standard 2026 does, however, come equipped with all the hardware needed to use Tesla’s full self-driving system, but enjoying it will require paying an additional 8 thousand dollars. We do not know whether this really makes much sense in an entry-level version like this one, which is primarily aimed at reducing costs.
Other limitations of this entry-level version
When it comes to equipment, the restrictions are also significant. This version does without the glass panoramic roof — the truth is that it does have one, but it is covered in the interior of the vehicle — the seats are no longer entirely vegan leather but partly fabric, the front seats are not ventilated, and it also lacks ambient lighting and electronic steering wheel adjustment.

On the exterior, the standard wheels are 18 inches and 19-inch ones are optional, the rear-view mirrors are adjusted manually and, most striking of all, there is the change to the front and rear light clusters. At the front, the daytime running light strip disappears and is replaced by compact headlights much more similar to those of the Model 3, while at the rear the light bar running across the full width also disappears, replaced by much more conventional light clusters.
Range is certainly not standard
Looking now at its technical specifications, the new Model Y Standard 2026 offers an EPA range of 321 miles — 516 km. This is quite surprising if we consider that the battery pack’s capacity has been reduced from 79 to 69 kWh. Improvements in the vehicle’s efficiency are therefore undeniable for this to have been possible.
Maximum charging speed is slightly lower than in the rest of the versions, going from 250 kW to 225 kW. Meanwhile, the time to reach 100 km/h from a standstill is 6.8 seconds for this version, compared with 5.4 seconds for the version immediately above it in the range.

With a base price in the United States of 39,990 dollars, the Model Y Standard represents a saving of 5 thousand dollars over the rear-wheel-drive Model Y Premium. Now it is all a matter of whether those interested in this electric SUV do the sums and decide whether it is worth giving up everything they will lose with this new version in exchange for those 5 thousand dollars.
