The next Chevrolet Camaro could receive a four-cylinder engine

Although it no longer has as many members as in its early days, the pony car segment still enjoys considerable popularity in the United States. The Camaro-Challenger-Mustang trio maintains a healthy rivalry that keeps this sports car category alive. But that competitiveness is not enough to guarantee their survival in the medium term.
Although purists may not like it, these models must also adapt to the new emissions regulations and new technologies. We have seen this with the new Ford Mustang, which has incorporated the turbocharged four-cylinder 2.3 EcoBoost engine, and soon it will be the turn of the Chevrolet Camaro. General Motors’ pony car will also receive a four-cylinder§h14― engine, as Automobile Magazine states based on the information it has gathered on the subject.
According to the publication, the engine chosen for this task will be the turbocharged 2.0 Ecotec with direct injection used in several GM products, although it will start from the 272-horsepower version offered in the Cadillac CTS. Since the Mustang’s EcoBoost is expected to exceed 309 hp, GM will have to improve the Ecotec when it fits it to the Camaro so that it can rival the Mustang’s engine.
The next Camaro will share not only its engine with the Cadillac CTS but also its platform. It has been confirmed for four years that the new generation of Chevrolet’s sports car will use the long-wheelbase Alpha architecture on which the Cadillac saloon is built. Automobile Magazine asserts that the Camaro will receive some styling features that characterized the early-seventies model, but the overall design will resemble the current one, with which the Camaro managed to outsell the Mustang for four consecutive years.
