The website of Tesla in China already shows the renewed Model Y 2025

The renewed Tesla Model Y 2025 will begin rolling out on Chinese roads next March. It remains to be seen, however, when it will also arrive in Europe and North America.

The day many fans of the North American brand had been waiting for has finally arrived. Tesla has just unveiled the final design of the production version of the renewed Tesla Model Y 2025, popularly known as “Juniper”. The brand’s websites in the Asia-Pacific region, including China’s, were updated in the early hours of this Thursday -European time- announcing the availability of this renewed compact SUV in these markets.

Deliveries in China will begin in March, later expanding to other markets such as Australia, Thailand or Hong Kong.

New features and improvements we’ll find

The first thing that catches the eye of the new Model Y 2025 is its much more futuristic front end, with a light bar that stretches from side to side -very similar to that of the new Hyundai Kona-, following the design line of the Cybertruck and also the Cybercab. That same light bar is also found at the rear of the vehicle, although in this case it is not direct light but reflected light.

Inside, the changes compared to the current Model Y are much greater, as the renovation has been complete. Tesla has followed the line set by the new Model 3 “Highland”, but has added some additional touches to make it even better. In this way, the new Model Y 2025 debuts ambient lighting and a screen for rear-seat passengers.

The indicator stalk returns

A controversial point, however, that some will dislike and others will applaud, is that, as can be seen in the images published by the manufacturer, this renewed version brings back the indicator stalk.

Regarding this last statement, however, some clarifications must be made. Firstly, these images correspond to the Chinese version of the new Model Y, and it will need to be confirmed whether this change ends up reaching other markets such as North America or Europe. And secondly, we should not rule out the possibility that this stalk can be removed at the owner’s discretion, since the buttons on the steering wheel remain present.

Perhaps Tesla has opted to offer each type of customer the option to choose what they prefer. If they want a cleaner, minimalist interior without any stalk, they remove it and that’s it, using the steering wheel buttons as in the Model 3. Whereas if they are one of those customers who aren’t quite convinced about doing without the indicator stalk, they keep it, there is also the option. In any case, this last point is merely speculation; in the coming days we will surely clear up our doubts on the matter.

Beyond the aesthetic changes both inside and outside the vehicle, Tesla has also updated some important aspects of the vehicle to offer the driver an improved driving experience. According to the manufacturer, the aerodynamic drag coefficient has been improved, going from 0.23 to 0.22, increasing efficiency. Additionally, the vehicle now also features an improved suspension that will make journeys, especially over long distances, much more pleasant.

You’ll go even further thanks to the improved aerodynamic drag coefficient

As far as range is concerned, Tesla will market two versions in the Chinese market. The entry-level one will come with rear-wheel drive and a standard battery pack, while the top version will feature dual electric motors and all-wheel drive along with a higher-capacity battery pack. The first promises a CLTC range of 593 km, while the second reaches up to 719 km. That said, we must not forget that these figures have been obtained under the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle, which tends to be extraordinarily generous with range figures. The WLTP range for the European market will almost certainly be lower, and the EPA range for the North American market will be even more reduced.

But how much does it cost?, you may be wondering. Well, both versions have increased in price in China. For the more affordable one you must pay at least 263,500 yuan, which at the current exchange rate is about 35 thousand euros. While the version with all-wheel drive and extended range costs 303,500 yuan, which comes to just over 40 thousand euros. These prices therefore represent an increase of around 5 percent compared to what these same versions of the “old” Model Y were costing.

Some unexpected surprises

Finally, let’s point out some interesting details of the new Model Y 2025 that we haven’t yet discussed. Firstly, everything suggests from the videos published by the manufacturer that the front trunk is automated and can be fully opened from the vehicle’s central screen. Likewise, it seems it finally includes a front camera in the front bumper, which should mean an improvement when parking automatically. Although let’s not forget that this camera also seemed set to be integrated into the new Model 3 “Highland” and ultimately disappeared. Lastly, it is also worth highlighting that Tesla has motorised the folding of the rear seats.
