That is why it becomes essential to make a selection of the most interesting options sold or to be sold in this turbulent year, so we begin our selection with the best plug-in hybrid SUVs of 2020.

Renault Captur E-Tech

The second generation of the entry-level crossover Renault has as its greatest appeal having been developed on the e-CMP platform, which means the crossover has a plug-in hybrid SUV variant whose price as the Renault Captur E-Tech starts at 31,024 euros.

It is true that this PHEV SUV is one of the least affordable, but there is no doubt that having such specifications comes at a price that, depending on use and enjoyment, may well be worth paying the 53,000 euros it costs in its sole Ultimate trim.

Jeep Renegade 4xe

Although we have been talking about the duo Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe for nearly a year, it was only last week that we could get to know the first Jeep electrified ones more fully, where the smaller of the two beats its bigger sibling, especially in terms of cost.

And while the price of the Jeep Renegade 4xe nor the Jeep Compass 4xe has not been officially announced, both share the same mechanical specifications and, with a tangible price difference depending on what the other non-electrified and equivalent engine options show, the cheaper one seems the better choice although, in any case, a Jeep is a Jeep and it is backing a winning horse.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

This PHEV SUV seems to us the best of 2020 for two reasons: first, because it is on offer and, second, because, for now, it will be the last Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid to be sold in Europe for a good while, at least.

Thus, with more than enough reasons to ensure it is a benchmark, this is the year to bet on this crossover, which we have tested, driven and enjoyed on asphalt, dirt and mud.

SEAT Tarraco FR PHEV

And if we are talking about benchmark plug-in hybrid crossovers, one that aims to set the standard is the SEAT Tarraco PHEV which, in its FR trim, stands out as the perfect combination for those seeking a sporty SUV with a CERO label at a reasonable price since, thanks to its 50 km in electric mode and a price for which it turns to racing formulas to enhance its dynamism, you will still have to wait, as it is not yet on sale.

When it reaches dealerships, the price of the SEAT Tarraco HR PHEV will likely be set at an amount above 50,000 euros.

Audi Q7 TFSIe

And if we are talking about high-end sporty PHEV SUVs, the Audi Q7 TFSIe with a V6 electrified engine, offered with two power outputs of 380 or 455 CV in the Audi Q7 55 TFSIe quattro and Audi Q7 60 TFSIe quattro, is a genuine missile, launching from 0 to 100 in just 6 seconds and capable of covering 43 km in fully electric mode.

Thanks to its sensational 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox, it is possible to drive in a very sporty way by manually operating the gear selector, or to undertake a long journey or drive around the city without having to change gears. That said, the cost of enjoying such a car is not small, since our choice, the Audi Q7 60 TFSIe quattro costs from 89,460 euros.

And if we focus on electrified crossovers of renowned glamour, the Land Rover Discovery Sport PHEV is king. With 309 CV drawn from a three-cylinder engine, a 1.5-litre unit producing 200 CV paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and an electric motor that adds another 109 CV, and a total maximum torque of 509 Nm, from the 50,510 euros price of this plug-in hybrid crossover it even seems cheap.
