The 2017 Mercedes-AMG E43

The new E-Class of Mercedes was renewed just a few months ago, giving rise to a new generation that comes loaded with technology.

Today we get to know the first version — it won’t be the last — signed by AMG, called the E43, which comes with standard all-wheel drive and nearly 400 horsepower.

There is no doubt that the E-Class is one of the cornerstones of the Mercedes range. Since its debut some 40 years ago, the brand’s mid-size saloon has enjoyed overwhelming success across every one of its generations, leading up to the current, freshly launched sixth edition.

The sixth generation of the E-Class bases its hopes of success on a more dynamic and bold design than ever, and on a technological load that places it among the most advanced vehicles on sale in the world. The W213 places greater emphasis on the emotional side of the vehicle, with the AMG versions as its greatest expression.

Today we get to know the first AMG version, the least powerful. This is the E43 4MATIC, the entry-level variant of the AMG range, which already reaches 400 hp. Aesthetically, the E43 already hints at its intentions thanks to an exterior design with oversized bumpers, wheels of a different design and an exhaust system with quad outlets.

The E43 AMG has performance similar to that of the previous E63 AMG

Inside, the changes focus on the seats, which are sportier and more enveloping, on the steering wheel, which has a specific design, and on details such as the stitching or the seat belts, in red tones, emphasizing the sportiness of the whole. In addition, thanks to the digital instrumentation, numerous technical parameters of both the powertrain and the chassis can be displayed.

Mechanically, the E43 uses the same engine already fitted to the C43 AMG, that is, a 3.0 V6 twin-turbocharged engine, which in the C43 produces 360 hp, while in the E43 the figure rises to a magical 400 hp and 520 Nm, guaranteeing very serious performance. All this power is transmitted through a 9-speed automatic gearbox with torque converter, which sends the power to a permanent 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.

The E43 4MATIC is capable of a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in just 4.5 seconds, with a top speed that, as is customary, is electronically limited to 250 km/h. To complement all this power, the E43 features an air suspension system with variable damping, as well as a specific braking system with 4-piston fixed calipers on the front axle.
