This is the range of combustion engines for the Opel Mokka: diesel and petrol alongside the electric version

In addition to the electric variant, Opel is offering petrol and diesel engines, broadening the range of buyers interested in its new crossover

Although the SUV is the brand’s standard-bearer in the new era of sustainable mobility, based on electricity, with the 100% electric variant of the Opel Mokka, the brand offers for this completely new car a wide range, comparable to that of another benchmark, this one historic, the Opel Corsa, whose latest generation also offers engines powered by diesel, petrol and, also, electricity.

Be that as it may, the diesel and petrol engines of the Opel Mokka carry the PSA stamp. Opel’s integration into the French group meant, as it did, the adoption of technology already present in the brands of greater weight such as Peugeot and Citroën and, for that reason, it is no surprise that this crossover has engines known even in rivals, such as the popular Peugeot 2008 or the stylish DS3 Crossback.

Even the name used for the petrol versions of the Opel Mokka is already familiar. The PureTech engines are the ones that bring to life the units that rely on the green pump for the mechanical heart to work.

Thus, starting from the same block, the 1.2 PureTech, but with a different electronic configuration that allows choosing between a more modest 101 CV setup and another, the most powerful in terms of traditional engines, of 131 CV, only surpassed by the 100 kW, or 136 CV, of the Opel Mokka-e, is complemented by the only diesel option available, the diesel 1.5 CDTI of 110 CV of the Opel Mokka, a car that announces an average consumption of just 3.8 litres per 100 km, according to the now-defunct NEDC cycle, giving reasons to those who still bet on diesel engines and posing a headache for anyone wanting to work out whether a diesel, a hybrid or even an electric car pays off more.

Be that as it may, in any case, the Opel Mokka with traditional engines has front-wheel drive and the option to choose between a 6-speed manual gearbox for all versions, except for the 131 CV 1.2 PureTech, which also offers the automatic alternative based on the also well-known 8-speed gearbox of PSA origin.

As a schematic summary, the range of the Opel Mokka is currently set out in this table:

Opel Mokka Fuel Power Transmission Average consumption
Pure Tech 100 Petrol 101 CV 6-speed manual 4.6 l/100 km
Pure Tech 130 Petrol 131 CV 6-speed manual 4.5-4.8 l/100 km
Pure Tech 130 Auto Petrol 131 CV 8-speed automatic 4.5-4.8 l/100 km
1.5 CDTI Diesel 110 CV 6-speed manual 3.8 l/100 km
