Volkswagen Multivan eHybrid 4Matic: more electric range and all-wheel drive
The Volkswagen Multivan and its California variant receive a new plug-in hybrid drivetrain and all-wheel drive capability that improves their performance.

A new generation arrives in the Volkswagen Multivan T7 range, which continues to offer a drivetrain with an internal combustion engine. The hybrid version is already available on the European market and features the eHybrid 4Motion trim level, which has a plug-in hybrid configuration and all-wheel drive capability.
The styling of the Volkswagen Multivan eHybrid 4Matic does not differ much from the rest of the range, so we are looking at the same vehicle, but with a plug-in hybrid system that improves on the one fitted to other versions. It offers a combustion engine paired with two electric motors that provide all-wheel drive for tackling difficult terrain.

Engine options for the new Volkswagen Multivan Hybrid
The new Volkswagen Multivan eHybrid 4Motion is made up of a 1.5-litre TSI Evo2 combustion engine. This produces 174 CV, which sends torque to the front axle. Also on the front axle is an electric motor producing 113 CV, and on the rear axle a second 134 CV motor.
The hybrid system allows the rear motor to keep running even when the battery has no charge. In this case, the front electric motor acts as a generator, producing the electricity this motor needs to keep running.
The new Volkswagen Multivan eHybrid 4Motion can transmit power to the front axle, the rear axle or both, as required. To enjoy permanent all-wheel drive, Sport mode must be activated, in which it is available at all times. The six-speed DSG automatic gearbox has been improved so that it performs its role more effectively with the new hybrid system.

Battery and electric range
The battery of this new variant has a capacity of 19.7 kWh, compared with the 10.4 kWh battery used by the model until now. This capacity gives it a range of up to 95 kilometres for the Multivan and up to 91 kilometres for the California.
The AC charging capacity is 11 kW, while it can charge at a power of 50 kW on DC. When the vehicle is not moving and the engine is off, the energy can be used to heat or cool the vehicle, which is very useful for enjoying the vehicle in any circumstances.
This new version of the Multivan and California is already on sale in Europe, with a reference price in Germany of 70,668.15 euros and 77,772.45 euros for the California.
