Would you buy Niki Lauda’s Ferrari at auction for around six million euros? The race car of Niki Lauda, specifically the Ferrari 312T with chassis number 022, goes up for auction at the prestigious auction house Gooding & Company in Pebble Beach.
David Gooding, whose auction house will offer the vehicle next August, has stated that “this Ferrari 312T, chassis 022, is one of the chassis used by Niki Lauda to win his first Formula One World Championship, in 1975, and to secure the first championship for Ferrari since 1964″. Without a doubt, this year it will be among the star models at Pebble Beach.

Niki Lauda’s Ferrari 312T, up for auction
“In the five races in which Lauda drove chassis 022, he qualified in pole position every time, and climbed onto the podium three times, including a victory at the French Grand Prix”. Lauda’s wins in Monaco, Belgium and the United States were achieved with his sister car, chassis 023, which remains in the possession of a French collector.
Chassis 022, the one going up for auction at Pebble Beach, also won the BRDC International Trophy race at Silverstone.

Hans Wurl, Gooding specialist in charge of this car, has pointed out that “as Ferrari’s number one driver, Lauda was always given the opportunity to drive the chassis he considered the best available for each race“.
“Chassis 022 was Lauda’s car as late in the season as Austria in August, and he drove chassis 023 as early as Monaco in May, where Lauda won”. “It is one of the most important racing Ferrari in the world,” Gooding added.

Luca di Montezemolo, head of the Scuderia when the Ferrari 312T began its racing career and reinvented Ferrari racing cars from 1990 onwards, lifting the brand to its current position in the market. Chassis 022 was instrumental in the milestones achieved by the Cavallino Rampante brand. After this car’s departure, the Maranello-based marque entered a drought lasting 21 years, until Michael Schumacher climbed the podium.
According to Gooding, the new owner of Niki Lauda’s Ferrari will have access to the Historic Monaco Grand Prix and the FIA Masters Historic Formula One Series. In addition, it earned a third place at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2017.
Niki Lauda, who recently passed away, was always a perfectionist with a rare skill and a good disposition to act as a driving force for development. After the 1974 season, Lauda took the wheel of the Ferrari 312B3, which brought the Austrian nine astonishing podiums but only two victories.
