SU7 Xiaomi Sedans Electric Cars
Xiaomi already talks of more than 7 months of waiting until delivery for the latest SU7 orders
Xiaomi’s SU7 is already a sales success, but the complicated part comes now: meeting the enormous demand generated since its launch and later extending its availability to other markets
After announcing last Thursday the final prices of the three versions available in the Chinese market of its first electric model, Xiaomi has not stopped receiving new orders one after another. The company had already announced at first that, just 27 minutes after sales of its new electric saloon began, it had registered 50 thousand orders.
With a price for the entry version of the range of just 27,600 euros at the current exchange rate, it was to be expected that the number of orders would keep growing throughout last weekend, and so it has. Xiaomi has released new data on this and now states that the number of orders reached 90 thousand in the first 24 hours alone, so it would not be surprising if today the figure far exceeds 100 thousand.

Such a high number of orders is undoubtedly extraordinary news for any manufacturer, all the more so if, as with Xiaomi, this is the model with which it debuts in the car market. However, it also entails a great responsibility. The company will now have to give its all to scale up production, so as to meet the high existing demand and deliver to its customers what they are waiting for. This will not be easy.
For the moment, Xiaomi has already warned of estimated waiting times of between 18 and 21 weeks for the standard and Pro versions of the SU7, while some customers who opted for the top-of-the-range model, the SU7 Max, will have to wait up to 30 weeks. In other words, a little over seven months.
Those who missed out on a unit of the Founder’s Edition will get another chance
Xiaomi also put on sale a limited edition of just 5 thousand units called Founder’s Edition, which, as expected, sold out completely almost instantly. This special edition included some extras such as, for example, a fridge between the two front seats. The difficulty of getting one of these units left many customers frustrated, which is why the Chinese manufacturer has announced that it will soon launch another batch of this same special edition, although it has not specified how many units or when this will happen.

The SU7 marks Xiaomi’s debut in the car market, as until now the company had focused exclusively on selling smartphones and other consumer electronics devices. A first step that will not, however, be the last. The manufacturer’s plans for the future are tremendously ambitious, as it aims to lead the car market within just 15 or 20 years. Among its objectives is also the launch of a flagship model that will be a direct competitor to the Model S Plaid from Tesla or the Taycan from Porsche.
