A few weeks ago we told you about the technical details of a new launch the VW Group had in the works: none other than a new W12 TFSI engine.

This magnificent engine is set to replace the current W12 FSI, which is still sold in models such as the VW Phaeton or the Audi A8, in a naturally aspirated configuration.

Coinciding with the presentation of the new W12 TFSI, we mentioned the highly likely possibility that the model chosen to debut it would be, no more and no less, the first SUV from Bentley, whose development is currently underway under the VW Group’s cover.

The Bentayga, as it will be called, will enjoy from its launch one of the most technologically advanced engines of recent years, capable of masterfully combining performance with refinement and efficiency. The new 6.0 W12 TFSI will feature all kinds of technical innovations, among which we can find a dual injection system (direct and indirect depending on the situation), a Start&Stop system specifically tuned for this engine, and a cylinder deactivation system, capable of shutting down the left cylinder bank of the engine under certain conditions, temporarily turning it into an “inline 6”.

Of course, one of the great virtues of this engine will be its smoothness, something very important when fitting it to the large and most exclusive models of the VW Group. In addition to the Bentley Bentayga, the next generations of the VW Phaeton and Audi A8 will also enjoy the W12 TFSI. In the current generation, the A8 already uses a W12, specifically a 6.3 W12 FSI producing 500 CV and 625 Nm. Although these are very serious figures, they are no match for its successor, which will initially offer 600 CV and 900 Nm, delivering genuine sports-car performance.
