Changan unveils the Avatr 06: the Chinese brand's mid-size electric saloon
With the Avatr 06, the Chinese manufacturer aims to compete in the Premium electric saloon segment, facing brands such as NIO, XPENG or Tesla in the local market.
The Chinese brand Avatr, the result of the joint effort of Changan, CATL and Huawei, has just unveiled its new mid-size saloon under the name Avatr 06. A new model that follows in the footsteps of the Avatr 07, the electric crossover that has recently been launched on the market, with which it shares a good number of technical similarities. Both models will be available on the Chinese market in both fully electric and electric-with-range-extender (EREV) versions.
After the Avatr 07, the Avatr 06 will thus become the fourth model in the brand’s line-up, with the Avatr 11 SUV and the Avatr 12 coupé saloon being the two oldest models.

This new mid-size saloon is based on the CHN platform, jointly developed by Changan, Huawei and CATL, and its launch is planned for early 2025. However, as we have already mentioned, it will not be available solely with a fully electric powertrain, but also with a range extender, following the current trend in the Chinese market and departing from the brand’s initial strategy, which was aimed exclusively at marketing fully electric models.
What else do we know about this new saloon from the Chinese brand?
Regarding the technical characteristics of the Avatr 06, we will start with its dimensions. As we have said, it is the brand’s mid-size saloon, and for that reason it does not reach 5 metres in length, measuring 4.86 metres long, 1.96 metres wide and 1.45 metres high; its wheelbase is almost 3 metres, at 2.94 metres. It is therefore a vehicle very similar to the Avatr 07 in dimensions, although with a lower profile as it is a saloon rather than a crossover.
Although the Chinese manufacturer has not yet revealed all the technical details of its new mid-size saloon, given that it will most likely share much of its specifications with the Avatr 07, we can expect that, like the latter, it will be available in four different versions, with power outputs ranging between 252 kW – with a single electric motor and rear-wheel drive – and 440 kW – with dual motors and all-wheel drive.

Regarding the battery pack, the fully electric versions of the Avatr 07 use an 82.16 kWh Shenxing battery from the Chinese supplier CATL, which can be charged from 0 to 80 per cent in just 20 minutes, offering a range when fully charged of up to 650 km for the rear-wheel-drive versions and 610 km for the only all-wheel-drive version available. All under the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle.

Finally, for those who do not yet know, Avatr is a joint venture created between the Chinese automotive giant Changan, which is state-owned, and the also Chinese battery supplier CATL, the leader in the sector. Changan holds a 40 per cent stake in this joint venture, CATL 17 per cent, while the remainder is held by local investment funds. Huawei also participates in this project as a technology partner and main component supplier.
