Toyota opens pre-sales of the all-electric bZ3X SUV in China

The bZ3X is a compact, fully electric SUV, slightly smaller than the bZ4X but not by much, which unfortunately doesn’t seem likely to reach Europe.

The Japanese manufacturer Toyota, backed by its partner GAC, has opened pre-sales of its new bZ3X electric SUV in China. It has also done so at a sharp price, since in this market it is available from around 13,000 euros at current exchange rates. Unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show held in April, the bZ3X comes in three versions to choose from: 430 Air+, 520 Pro+ and 620 Max.

According to the company, the official market launch of this electric SUV is scheduled for March 2025, and it is at that point that customers who place an order during the pre-sales period starting now will begin receiving their new vehicles.

The bZ3X intended for the Chinese market is based on the EAP –Aion Electric Platform– developed by GAC, the same platform used by the Aion V model from this Chinese manufacturer. This electric SUV has an electric motor on the front axle capable of delivering up to 150 kW of power. In its entry-level version, the 430 Air+, this model features a 50 kWh LFP battery pack, thanks to which it is able to cover up to 430 kilometres on a single charge under the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle.

A version suited to every type of customer

According to the manufacturer, the range of the other two versions on sale is even greater. The mid-range version features a 65 kWh battery pack, with which the range rises to around 500 km. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-range version with a 71.4 kWh battery pack is able to comfortably exceed those 500 km. As for the charging process, Toyota states that only 24 minutes are needed to increase the charge from 30 to 80 percent.

As for the dimensions of the bZ3X, we can say they are quite generous, so this vehicle will be perfectly suited to those who need plenty of space when travelling, such as families with one or two children. This new electric SUV from Toyota measures 4.60 metres long, 1.88 metres wide and 1.65 metres high; its wheelbase is 2.77 metres.

The bZ3X can be fitted with 18- or 19-inch wheels and has a kerb weight of 1,690 kg. Its exterior design follows the line of other recent models from the Japanese manufacturer, standing out for its modernity. Inside, the equipment is on a par with what is expected in a vehicle like this. On entering the cabin we find a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, an 8.8-inch instrument cluster screen and a 14.6-inch floating central screen run by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. The system also features voice recognition. The second row of seats has air-conditioning vents and a folding armrest, plus wireless phone charging, 32-colour ambient lighting, seven airbags and an 11-speaker Yamaha audio system.

With the latest technology

Toyota has also not hesitated to equip the bZ3X with an advanced driver-assistance system called Momenta 5.0 ADAS, powered by an Nvidia DRIVE AGX Orin X chip, which in turn relies on a total of 27 sensors, including high-resolution cameras, ultrasonic radars and even a LiDAR.
